Job Description Summary: As a Senior Systems Engineer specializing in automation, you will play a key role in designing, implementing, and supporting core infrastructure services that enable Rocket Software teams to operate efficiently and securely. Your primary focus will be on developing, maintaining, and optimizing automation solutions using tools such as Ansible and other configuration management platforms, to streamline server provisioning, configuration, monitoring, and system operations. You will administer and troubleshoot Linux-based environments, ensuring high availability, strong security controls, and consistent performance across Rocket’s systems. In this role, you will proactively analyze system health, address complex technical issues, and provide capacity planning insights to support future growth. You will be responsible for maintaining accurate documentation, improving operational processes, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, scalable infrastructure solutions. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Develop and operate Ansible playbooks and workflows to automate the provisioning and lifecycle management of virtualized systems. Administer, monitor, and troubleshoot Linux-based systems (e.g., RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu). Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues across automation, Linux systems, virtualization platforms, and infrastructure components. Maintain comprehensive documentation including runbooks, architecture diagrams, operating procedures, and automation standards. Interact with Rocket development teams to define system and business requirements to support Rocket Software go-to-market efforts. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand application requirements, develop, implement, and maintain scalable and secure solutions that meet the business needs. Support key technology initiatives including disaster recovery, merger and acquisition activities, capacity planning, and budgeting. Monitor and optimize system performance, platform health, and automation efficiency; provide capacity planning and improvement recommendations. Provide timely problem resolution, incident management, and root cause analysis. Perform duties following all company standards regarding engagement, change management, and escalations. Participate in special projects and perform other duties as required. Required Qualifications: Ten or more years of education and/or relevant experience may be considered to satisfy educational and years-of-experience requirements for this posting. 10+ years of hands-on experience in IT operations, with a strong focus on Linux systems and scripting (Bash, Python, YAML, PowerShell, etc) for automation (e.g., using Ansible, Nutanix NCM, or similar tools). Proficient in virtualization technologies, such as VMWare vSphere, ESXi, Nutanix AHV, and RedHat OpenShift. Familiarity with enterprise storage systems and networking fundamentals. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills; desire and ability to document configurations in support of a larger team. Good interpersonal skills with a strong focus on listening and questioning to derive the best solutions. Ability and motivation to learn new technologies quickly and with minimal support and guidance. Ability to present ideas and solutions to challenging issues; then lead and implement those ideas. Strong project management skills and attention to details with a customer focus is critical. Preferred Qualifications: Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) or equivalent certification. Knowledge of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus. Proficiency in scripting (e.g., Bash, Python, PowerShell) and automation tools. Experience with hybrid cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Azure).
