THE OPPORTUNITY

KBR is seeking a highly skilled Senior Systems Engineer with a Safety focus to join one of our Defence projects. This role will play a key part in supporting critical Defence projects by ensuring systems safety engineering principles and regulatory compliance are met throughout the project lifecycle.
This is a permanent, full time opportunity and can be based in either Canberra or Melbourne. Interstate applicants are welcome to apply and will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
This position will require an active AGSVA NV1 security clearance on commencement and the successful candidate must be willing to upgrade to an NV2.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Chartership status will be highly advantageous)
  • 7+ years experience in safety engineering within Defence
  • Strong knowledge of Defence Safety Case development, Hazard Analysis, and Risk Management.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Responsibilities
  • Lead safety engineering activities in accordance with Defence regulatory frameworks.
  • Develop and manage Safety Cases, Hazard Logs, and Risk Assessments to support project compliance.
  • Conduct System Safety Assessments (SSA), Failure Mode Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA).
  • Support system reviews, ensuring safety requirements are effectively implemented and verified.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and project stakeholders on safety engineering practices.
  • Work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams, including project managers, engineers, and Defence stakeholders to ensure safety requirements are met.
