JOB DESCRIPTION

Are you a top performer who feels stuck at a ceiling in your current firm?
Do you want more opportunities to grow, lead, and make an impact — without wasting years jumping through hoops, chasing moving goal posts, or grinding away during busy season just to make the partners more money?
Do you want to be part of a vibrant, growing team where the best people can do their best work, grow and advance without constraint, make a meaningful positive impact on their clients, and do it all with a group of teammates who are smart, passionate, and fun to work with?

At Cherrywood Advisors, we’re building a different kind of accounting firm. One where top 5% professionals can:

  • Be part of an ambitious, sharp, collaborative team that values excellence
  • Be recognized, rewarded, and compensated appropriately when they go above and beyond, and have both opportunities for profit sharing on day 1 and a pathway to real equity way before reaching partner
  • Grow into leadership roles much faster than at traditional firms
  • Work hard while at work, but also maintain thoughtful and healthy balance, work sustainable hours, and still see their friends and families during busy season

We’re looking for a Senior Tax Accountant who is excited to step into a role with significant responsibility, unrestricted growth potential, better compensation, and real opportunity for impact.

What you’ll do

  • Deliver client work with confidence — ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely delivery
  • Serve as final reviewer and sign-off for a wide range of tax returns (1040, 1041, 1120, 1120-S, 1065, etc.)
  • Mentor and guide junior team members as our practice expands
  • Help develop and refine the systems and processes that we use to deliver client work to make them as efficient as possible
  • Step into leadership opportunities as we grow — helping shape both the tax team and firm-wide culture

Our ideal candidate

  • Hungry to grow — you’re in the top 5% of performers at your current firm and want more opportunity for growth, compensation, and recognition than what you’re currently getting
  • 3–5+ years of experience preparing and reviewing a variety of returns in a public accounting setting while balancing multiple clients at one time
  • Breadth of experience across different types of returns: Form 1040, (including common schedules like Schedule C and Schedule E), 1041, 1065, 1120, and 1120-S (not just a niche specialist in one thing)
  • Takes responsibility and ownership rather than waiting to be told what to do
  • Confident making the final call and sign-off on most tax returns with sound professional judgment
  • Wants to actively contribute to building a strong team culture and invest in making Cherrywood Advisors the single best place to work anywhere
  • Excited not just about delivering client work, but also about constantly refining and improving the processes and systems we use to deliver client work

What we offer

  • Top-of-market compensation
  • Profit sharing from day 1
  • Pathway to equity well before traditional “partner track” timelines
  • Mentorship, coaching, and the chance to take on leadership opportunities early
  • The energy and excitement of a fast-growing, vibrant team culture
  • No micromanagement — we trust great people to deliver great results

Note: This is a hybrid role where all members of the team will be in-person 3 days per week with the option to work from home with no meetings the other 2 days per week.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $90,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year

Benefits:

  • 401(k)
  • Dental insurance
  • Employee stock ownership plan
  • Flexible schedule
  • Health insurance
  • Opportunities for advancement
  • Paid time off
  • Profit sharing
  • Vision insurance
  • Work from home

Application Question(s):

  • Are you not just willing to, but excited to be in-person 3 days per week in Vienna, VA to support the development of a vibrant team culture? The other 2 days will have the option to work from home with no scheduled meetings.
  • Are you comfortable being the final reviewer and sign-off on tax returns, with no additional partner review after you?
  • Over the course of your entire career, how many cumulative tax returns have you either prepared or reviewed?
  • Are you comfortable with or open to quickly learning UltraTax?

License/Certification:

  • CPA or Enrolled Agent (Preferred)
