KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Management of the Group’s Tax Risk Management & Governance Policy, including:
    o Considering the impact of tax-related Government announcements (in Australia and overseas) on the Group

o Monitor and analyse proposed and newly enacted tax legislation, regulations and judicial decisions that impact the company’s operations and financial positions

  • Preparation of Australian domestic and foreign (e.g. UK) tax compliance, including:

o Australian and foreign income tax returns, and accompanying schedules
o BAS/VAT returns
o Other tax compliance items including, but not limited to, R&D claims, FBT returns, withholding tax obligations, tax instalment obligations, ATO notifications
o Transfer pricing requirements

o Assist the broader business with tax compliance related queries

  • Preparation of periodic tax statutory reporting, including:

o Tax statutory reporting workings for the Group, as well as standalone entities as necessary
o Tax disclosures in all statutory reports

o Working with external advisors and independent auditors in the resolution of statutory tax related queries

  • Assisting with queries from the Australian Taxation Office and other domestic/foreign tax authorities
  • Assisting with tax advice to the Group on business transactions such as international related party dealings and M&A activity, including:

o Working with external tax, legal and other advisors to identify tax issues in relation to new transactions and acquisitions
o Preparing and executing tax step plans for new transactions and projects to ensure correct and effective implementation of tax advice
o Research and analysis of tax impacts to proposed business transactions
o Identify tax incentives, credits or offsets as permitted under tax legislation or regulations

o Preparation of tax notes to file on tax technical issues impacting the Group

  • Optimise tax processes and workpapers, including:

o Identifying potential weaknesses and inefficiencies in current processes and workpapers
o Development of new tax models and workpapers
o Assisting with the design and implementation of new tax systems, including external tax software solutions
o Maintenance of clear and comprehensive electronic tax records

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • A team player who values inclusion, collaboration and personal growth
  • Knowledge and experience in Australian corporate tax, including tax effect accounting and other compliance
  • Knowledge and experience in a broad range of other taxes will be preferred including, but not limited to, GST, withholding taxes, FBT and R&D claims
  • Knowledge and experience in dealing with transfer pricing or international tax (e.g. UK) will also be a preferred
  • Ability to understand tax technical issues and tax law, but also an ability to communicate tax technical issues to non-tax professionals
  • Strong project management skills with ability to manage own time and work independently
  • Strong work ethic and a genuine interest in the business outcomes
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent relationship, written and verbal skills

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Relevant tertiary degree (e.g. a Business, Accounting, Commerce or Law Degree) is desired
  • Professional qualification (e.g. CA, CPA, Chartered Tax Advisor) is desired
  • 3+ years / 5+ years relevant work experience in Australian taxation, including experience in a multinational company or Big 4 firm is desired

Responsibilities

This role will work closely with the Head of Tax to support the finance team and other key internal and external stakeholders in relation to all tax-related matters in Australia and overseas.
