At Paar Melis & Associates, we specialize in accounting and advisory services for independent auto repair shops across the U.S. Our clients rely on us for more than tax prep—they trust us to help them grow their businesses. We’re looking for a highly experienced tax professional who’s ready to take the lead and eventually step into the Tax Manager role.

POSITION OVERVIEW

We’re hiring a Senior-Level Tax Preparer with at least 5 years of experience in tax preparation. This is a key leadership-track position designed to evolve into our future Tax Manager. The right person will bring deep tax expertise, leadership skills, and a roll-up-your-sleeves attitude to help us continue delivering exceptional service during tax season and beyond.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years of tax preparation experience
  • Enrolled Agent (EA) or CPA required
  • Strong knowledge of both current-year and multi-year filings and resolutions
  • Proficient in tax software
  • Comfortable with a fast-paced environment and a focused industry niche
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be local to Mt. Airy, MD – This is not a remote position
Responsibilities
  • Prepare complex individual and business tax returns (including partnerships, S-corps, and C-corps)
  • Review returns prepared by junior staff and provide guidance, feedback, and support
  • Supervise and support the tax team, helping manage workload and workflow, especially during busy season
  • Conduct research and apply tax law to real-world scenarios
  • Communicate directly with clients to gather documents, explain filings, and answer questions
  • Assist in refining department processes and identifying areas for operational improvement
  • Work closely with the current Tax Manager to learn internal systems and prepare for a leadership transition
