Location: Wakefield, RI (On-Site Only)
Job Type: Full-Time (Seasonal start possible, with long-term partnership potential)
About Us
We are a well-established tax and financial planning firm with a loyal and growing client base. Founded by a former college professor who began preparing tax returns on the side, our practice has grown into a full-service financial planning office with a strong community presence, deep roots in academia, and a culture grounded in trust and client care. Many of our clients are university professors and professionals who value thoughtful tax planning and investment guidance.
Our office combines the professionalism of a financial planning firm with the feel of a small, close-knit practice. We take pride in our values-driven culture and long-standing relationships with our clients.
Position Overview
We are seeking an Enrolled Agent (EA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) to join our team on-site in Wakefield. This role focuses on face-to-face client work, preparing and reviewing individual 1040 tax returns, and collaborating with our financial planning team to help clients achieve both tax efficiency and long-term financial goals.
The right candidate will be someone who enjoys building relationships, values accuracy and integrity, and wants to be part of a practice that integrates tax planning with investment management. For the right person, this position offers the opportunity to grow into a long-term partnership role with access to a large, established client base.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review individual 1040 tax returns, with varying levels of complexity
  • Meet with clients in person to gather tax data, answer questions, and discuss planning opportunities
  • Collaborate with the financial planning team on tax-sensitive investment strategies
  • Research and resolve tax issues as they arise
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of tax laws and regulations affecting individual taxpayers
  • Provide proactive tax-saving strategies and client education
  • Foster long-term relationships with clients and the local community

Qualifications

  • Active CPA license or Enrolled Agent credential preferred
  • Minimum 3+ years of individual tax preparation experience (1040-focused practice)
  • Strong technical tax knowledge, with ability to handle schedules C, E, and more complex individual returns
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills — enjoys working face-to-face with clients
  • Interest in financial planning and tax management as part of a holistic client service model
  • Highly organized, accurate, and trustworthy with confidential information
  • Desire for long-term growth and partnership within a stable practice

What We Offer

  • A professional yet home-office atmosphere with strong team culture
  • A large, loyal client base with deep community ties (many college professors and professionals)
  • Opportunities for long-term partnership/ownership for the right candidate
  • Collaboration with experienced advisors in a financial planning environment
  • Competitive compensation, based on experience and credentials
  • Stability of a mature practice with forward-looking growth opportunities
