About the Job
Refactor Games is a AAA sports video game studio. We are developing the next generation of professional football (soccer) video games using Unreal Engine 5.
We’re looking for a Senior Technical Designer who can own the visual interaction layer between the player and the pitch—especially in high-stakes moments like Free Kicks, Goal Kicks, and Penalties.
This role focuses on building real-time, 3D user interfaces that blend diegetic input controls, camera framing, and gameplay systems. You’ll prototype, design, and tune the user-facing layers of our set piece systems to feel intuitive, tactile, and deeply responsive.

Responsibilities

  • 3D aim and trajectory interfaces for Free Kicks, Goal Kicks, Penalties, and Throw-Ins
  • Interactive ball placement and camera-assisted targeting tools
  • Dynamic shot power bars, curve indicators, swerve + dip visualizers
  • Input-driven UI systems that respond to stick flicks, button holds, and gestures
  • Integration of interface feedback (reticles, indicators, meters) with physical outcomes
  • Seamless transitions between gameplay and interface modes
  • Prototyping and scripting of systems using UE5 Blueprints and UMG, with C++ hooks

Requirements

  • 4+ years in technical design or gameplay/UI scripting roles
  • Deep experience with Unreal Engine 5, including UMG, Blueprints, and input systems
  • Understanding of spline tools, camera systems, and spatial UI in 3D space
  • Proven ability to design and implement user interaction systems that feel good
  • Strong communicator who can prototype quickly and work closely with UX, code, and animation

Pluses

  • Shipped a sports game or worked on complex interaction systems (aiming, targeting, or skill input)
  • Experience designing tactile input loops (e.g. analog stick control schemes)
  • Deep knowledge of soccer and what makes a free kick interface feel right under pressure
