GIZ is looking for a seasoned professional to join its PtX Finance team as a Senior Technical Advisor, focused on accelerating Power-to-X (PtX) projects and ecosystems across the continent. Based in Hatfield, Pretoria, this strategic role offers the opportunity to work at the forefront of sustainable finance and green hydrogen innovation - contributing directly to the mobilisation of investment and the transformation of Africa’s energy landscape. This position, reporting to the Project Director, is available until 30 August 2027.

What You Will Be Doing

You will support the development of a blueprint orchestration mechanism to mobilise private institutional investment in PtX projects across Sub-Saharan Africa. Working closely with project developers, governments, and financial institutions, you will:

  • Support the implementation of project activities in collaboration with the Project Director and international Senior Advisor.
  • Contribute to the selection of suitable PtX projects and government actors.
  • Establish strong working relationships with developers, government stakeholders, and GIZ partners.
  • Develop and apply a holistic framework to analyse the commercial viability and bankability of PtX ecosystems.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis of selected project and government environments.
  • Draft and validate a practical guide (blueprint orchestration mechanism) for use by GIZ specialists.
  • Organise and structure workshops and roundtable discussions.
  • Contribute to project Monitoring & Evaluation through reporting inputs.

What You Need to Succeed

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A relevant tertiary qualification: A first degree in Economics, Business Administration, or equivalent.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 5 years in business and project development.
  • Minimum 2 years in project finance.
  • Minimum 2 years in public-private sector cooperation.
  • At least 1 year of work experience in two countries outside of South Africa.
  • Demonstrated interest in green hydrogen, PtX, and the energy transition.
  • Willingness to travel internationally for extended periods.
  • Proven knowledge of green financing mechanisms.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a structured, methodical manner.
  • Excellent communication skills with high-level public and private stakeholders.
  • Initial experience in project and process management.
  • Strong writing and communication skills in English.
