Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Technical Architect to lead the design, implementation, and management of secure and scalable AWS-based cloud infrastructure for the Peace Corps Government (PCGOV) systems. This role is critical in supporting the agency’s modernization initiatives by ensuring compliance with FedRAMP, NIST SP 800-53, and Peace Corps MS 542 standards. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in AWS architecture, DevOps practices, and administration of Django/Wagtail-based applications in a Linux environment.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.

MANDATORY EXPERIENCE:

  • 12+ years of experience designing and managing cloud infrastructure (preferably AWS).
  • Demonstrated experience architecting secure, scalable, and FedRAMP-compliant environments.
  • Strong hands-on experience with:
  • Django and Wagtail CMS
  • PostgreSQL and Elasticsearch
  • Linux system administration (e.g., Ubuntu/CentOS)
  • CI/CD and DevOps pipelines

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Experience working in federal or public sector environments.
  • Familiarity with Cloudflare, Terraform, or similar Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools.
  • Experience with monitoring and alerting tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for interfacing with stakeholders and federal auditors.

Responsibilities
  • Architect and manage the AWS-based PCGOV hosting environment, leveraging services such as EC2, RDS (PostgreSQL), S3, ELB, SES, and CloudWatch.
  • Lead cloud migration strategy and execution, ensuring zero/minimal downtime and robust rollback planning.
  • Build and maintain CI/CD infrastructure, integrating version control, code review workflows, and automated testing in a FedRAMP-authorized GitHub environment.
  • Oversee configuration management, system patching, and security compliance in alignment with the System Security Plan (SSP) and Peace Corps MS 542 policies.
  • Administer and optimize Django/Wagtail applications to ensure high performance and availability.
  • Implement and manage core infrastructure components:
  • Linux OS, NGINX, Gunicorn, Elasticsearch
  • Maintain robust documentation including:
  • Technical architecture diagrams
  • Disaster recovery plans
  • Configuration baselines
  • Runbooks
  • Interface with the Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR) and Security Assessors during audits, assessments, and remediation processes.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity and DevSecOps teams to implement and maintain NIST SP 800-53 Rev. 5 controls.
  • Contribute to the development of:
  • System Security Plans (SSPs)
  • Contingency Plans
