We are looking for a passionate, results-oriented, and motivated self-starter to join the Product Documentation team to collaborate on our product documentation efforts for Compute, Storage, Network, and Developer Tools products, and services. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Product Design and Documentation, the Technical Writer will work across the organization to produce product documentation and set standards across the team. DigitalOcean technical writers approach documentation with deep customer empathy, a genuine curiosity about the technology they are writing about, and a critical eye for evaluating the helpfulness of existing content. What You’ll be Doing: Collaborating with product design, engineering, and product management to write user-focused documentation for our technical developer audience, including technical how-tos, support articles, and conceptual explanations. Collaborating with the team of product docs technical writers on peer reviews, work distribution, and content strategy. Understanding and using DigitalOcean's products at a fundamental level, like deploying, configuring, and updating resources using DigitalOcean's UI, API, and CLI. Verifying the technical functionality of in-progress and release-ready cloud-based products to write accurate docs. Thoroughly understanding user goals to provide feedback on products in development and to inform content creation and maintenance. What We're Looking For: Substantial experience with docs as code: Fluency with version control (Git, GitHub), like branching, forking, and resolving merge conflicts. Fluency using PR-based workflows for writing collaboration and peer reviews. Familiarity with static site generators (Hugo). Familiarity with writing content in Markdown. Exceptional self-driven technical learning and writing ability: Strong research skills and the ability to pick up new technical concepts quickly. A portfolio of published writing (personal or professional) for a technical audience, ideally on cloud computing or related concepts. Well-developed reader empathy and Experience with Linux and working from the command line. Excellent written and verbal English communication skills. Experience collaborating cross-functionally to gather technical information. Experience working remotely or collaborating from an office with remote teams. Excellent organizational skills and time management. Nice-to-haves include: Notable writing or publishing experience, like technical book authorship or developmental editing. Software engineering experience, especially front-end web development or familiarity with Go or Python. Familiarity with OpenAPI (Swagger) specs and API docs. The salary range for this position is between $143,000 - $178,000 based on market data, relevant years of experience, and skills. You may qualify for a bonus in addition to base salary; bonus amounts are determined based on company and individual performance.
