Job Description The Senior Technician, Field Operations MIN is responsible for collecting samples, observation, and/or inspection of products or raw materials for laboratory analysis by performing the following duties. Takes on additional responsibility as Team Lead in the absence of the Supervisor/Manager. Works under established direction, with little to no direct supervision, expected to perform the following job functions with a high degree of independence. Collects samples of product or raw materials that are being transferred in containers, vessels, barges, trucks, and/or rail. Gathers samples at specified locations, date states of processing and time interval. Labels sample containers and all related paperwork, documenting location of sample, date, and time of collection. Delivers samples to laboratory for analysis. Prepares samples, performs their reduction and division of appropriate sizes. Performs sample screening and/or other related physical tests. Ensures all equipment and containers are organized and cleaned before and after use. Ensures all personal protective equipment (PPE) relevant for tasks is worn at all times. Ensures compliance with all required local and federal safety processes and procedures while collecting, screening or delivering samples. Provides technical advice and support to the Field Technicians, may train Junior Technicians as required. Serves as a Team Leader when Supervisor and or Manager are not present. Trains, motivates and monitors staff during shift. Assists staff to carry out and complete tasks according to established work procedures. Work in partnership with other Technicians to solve client problems to ensure quality and customer satisfaction standards are met. Assists Supervisor and or Manager, making sure that each employee in the team has sufficient information, resources and materials to do their job safely. May have Preparation or Laboratory responsibilities, as required by business needs. Directly responsible for their area housekeeping and cleanliness on a daily basis. Accountable for routine and non-routine equipment maintenance. Directly responsible for ensuring all safety equipment is worn and safety procedures are followed while performing work, being on site or delivering samples. Adheres to internal standards, policies and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Associate degree or High School (GED) and equivalent years of experience required. 5+ years working in Industrial or Laboratory or Field Services setting with experience following strict safety standards required. Bachelor’s degree in science or in related discipline in combination with experience outlined above AND 1+ year supervisory experience preferred. LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS A valid and current Driver’s license may be required if the role requires driving a company vehicle. May be required to obtain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Card) May be required to obtain 24-hour surface Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) certificate, training is available through SGS. This role may use sample prep equipment that may include Jaw Crusher, Bowl & Disc Pulverizing Mills, Pressure Filters, Riffle Splitters, Compressed Air, Hammer Mill Crushers, Ovens, Balances, and basic sampling tools.
