We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Geological and Geophysical Engineering (GGE) Technician to provide dedicated technical support to the Department of Geography, Geology, and the Environment (GGE). This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in supporting cutting-edge teaching and research in a dynamic and growing department.
As the GGE Technician, you will be responsible for maintaining and supporting a wide range of laboratory and field equipment, ensuring the smooth delivery of practical classes, and assisting with research projects. Your expertise will be crucial in supporting students, academics, and researchers across the department, helping to maintain the highest standards in education and innovation.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain, calibrate, and operate a variety of specialist equipment, including geological survey instruments and geophysical apparatus.
  • Provide technical support for laboratory-based teaching, fieldwork, and research activities.
  • Assist with the preparation and setup of practical classes, ensuring all equipment and materials are ready for use.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to staff and students on the use of laboratory and field equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, conducting risk assessments as required.
  • Manage equipment inventories and oversee the procurement of consumables and replacement parts.
  • Collaborate with academic staff to develop innovative practical exercises and support research projects.
  • Forklift driving experience preferable.
