Senior Technologist – Microbiology Entity: Aga Khan University Location: Karachi Introduction: The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at The Aga Khan University is a dynamic academic center which serves the diagnostic needs of the country through its clinical laboratory services that is spread across Pakistan. AKUH's Clinical Laboratory is College of American Pathologists (CAP) accredited and caters to the needs of the entire country through its tertiary lab at the main campus, 300+ specimen collection units and 13 stat labs across Pakistan. The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine consists of five major sections namely Chemical Pathology, Hematology and Transfusion Medicine, Histopathology, Microbiology, and Molecular Pathology. Each section is academically driven and is highly engaged in research and undergraduate, postgraduate teaching and training. Job Role / Responsibilities: Reporting to Manager / Assistant Manager of your assigned section, you will be required to perform Clinical and Bio-chemical tests as per the departmental policy / procedure manual on a daily basis to ensure quality service and timely preparation of the final reports. You will be responsible to: Assist in teaching / training of junior staff, student and trainees according to guidelines provided as and when required. Follow and assist the Assistant Manager/Manager/ Pathologist in the implementation of safety standards according to Laboratory Safety Manual on a daily basis required for own safety and the safety of the others. Confirm by discussing unusual findings with the Charge Technologist as and when required to avoid misleading or erroneous results. Participate in internal and external quality control surveys periodically for continuing education to keep abreast with the latest developments. Eligibility Criteria / Requirements: B.Sc. in Biological Sciences/M.Sc. preferred. 3 to 4 years of experience as Technologist at AKUH or 6 – 7 years of relevant experience at a hospital or laboratory. Good knowledge of laboratory tests. Administrative capabilities. Knowledge of latest developments in the medical technology field. Comprehensive employment reference checks will be conducted.
Responsibilities
The Senior Technologist will perform clinical and biochemical tests according to departmental policies and assist in training junior staff. They will also ensure safety standards are followed and participate in quality control surveys.
