DESCRIPTION

The Senior Technology Infrastructure Engineer provides hands on technical expertise and leadership across infrastructure platforms, supporting the stability, performance, and security of enterprise systems. The role is critical in the design, delivery, and support of infrastructure services, and plays a key part in mentoring junior engineers and driving best practices across cloud and on-premises technologies

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERTISE

  • Excellent knowledge of storage (NetApp desirable)
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Windows (physical and virtual),including associated infrastructure services (AD, DHCP, DNS, NPS etc).
  • Excellent knowledge of VMware (SRM experience desirable).
  • Good knowledge of data centre and campus switching/routing technologies and physical cabling management (Cisco Catalyst /Nexus / Meraki desirable)
  • Excellent knowledge of cloud services (Azure desirable, OneLake, Fabric, )
  • Understanding of cybersecurity systems, such as firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and endpoint protection (Cisco FirePOWER desirable)
  • Demonstrated expertise in PowerShell scripting to automate infrastructure tasks, streamline system administration, and enhance operational efficiency across Windows Environments.
  • Proficient in developing and maintaining custom scripts for monitoring, configuration management, and integration with enterprise tools, ensuring scalable and secure infrastructure operations.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills with demonstrable ability to leverage a first principles approach to solving complex problems across technologies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills, with the ability to give and receive constructive feedback.
  • Ability to manage own priorities and work to defined deadline

Level of experience:

  • Demonstrable experience of implementing and managing shared storage platforms supporting virtualised environments.
  • Strong, demonstrable experience of implementing and maintaining and recovering Windows based server infrastructures.
  • Strong demonstrable experience implementing, managing and recovering virtual infrastructure on VMware.
  • Experience supporting data centre, distribution and access infrastructures and Wi-Fi networks.
  • Experience in a similar 3rd line role and a willingness to learn new technologies and processes.
  • Experience with cloud services (e.g. Azure, Intune)Scripting or automation skills using PowerShell desirable.

  • Specific qualifications and training:
    Associate degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field desirable or equivalent work experience.
    MCSE, Cisco CCNA, & SNCF also VCAP, Azure Administrator/Solutions Architect, NetApp Cloud Associate/ NetApp CTSP are required.
    Cybersecurity certifications and experience desirable

Responsibilities
  • Deliver technical solutions across hybrid infrastructure platforms including virtualisation (VMWare / vSphere), cloud services (Azure / AWS), storage (NetApp), networking and Active Directory
  • Monitoring and maintaining the overall health and performance of critical systems, proactively identifying and resolving issues to enhance system resilience and uptime.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical problems related to hardware, software, and network infrastructure, ensuring efficient and reliable operations.
  • Collaborate with other teams to assist in resolving escalated issues, providing guidance and expertise as needed.
  • Manage multiple systems, including but not limited to servers, storage devices, virtualisation platforms, cloud services such as AWS and Azure, and cybersecurity systems, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Work in tandem with our engineering team to identify and implement the most optimal cloudbased solutions for the company
  • Conduct regular system audits to ensure compliance with security standards, risk management protocols, and regulatory requirements.
  • Implement, maintain and test effective backup and disaster recovery strategies, suggesting improvements where possible to ensure data integrity and minimise business disruptions.
  • Take ownership of key Infrastructure services, Iincluding the monitoring of system logs and security alerts to proactively mitigate potential cybersecurity threats or vulnerabilities.
  • Lead infrastructure elements of change activity including system upgrades, migrations, patches, and enhancements, minimizing operational impact while improving service reliability. This should also include business continuity testing
  • Document and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including system configurations, troubleshooting procedures, and ensuring operational guidelines are up to date and aligned with best practices.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies, recommending, and implementing relevant improvements.
