Description Position: Senior Telecommunications Officer Pay Classification: Non-exempt Job Classification: Full-time Pay Grade: Senior Telecommunication Officer Location: 445 West Main St, Danville, KY 40422 Department: Communications Responsible To: Deputy Police Chief Position Summary: Under the direct supervision of the Communications Director, this position is responsible for the daily front-line supervision of shift personnel. Oversees daily front-line operations of the Communication Center and is responsible for communication of activities to subordinate and command staff. This position assumes additional command responsibilities in absence of the command staff. Supervisory Responsibilities: Yes Duties/Responsibilities: · Responsible for the supervision and development of Telecommunication Officers. · Performs Telecommunication Officer duties as required. · Required to participate in command staff on-call rotation, and responsible for responding in the event of emergencies. · Assist command with developing, implementing, and updating departmental policies and procedures. · Makes recommendations to command staff during the annual budget process regarding operational needs. · Responsible for participation in the annual staff evaluation process. · Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Required Skills/Abilities: · Must have ability to work in a fast-paced high stress environment. · Ability to maintain a calm, cool, and collective demeanor in emergency situations. · Strong verbal and written communication skills. · Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner via radio and phone when dealing with both the general public and safety personnel. · Ability to establish working relationships with coworkers, city officials, safety personnel, and the general public. · Must have ability to work with a high sense of urgency. · Ability to follow work instructions from direct supervisor. · Basic computer skills, with the ability to 911 software applications. · Ability to supervise, develop, and lead subordinate staff. · Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality. · Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays as job duties demand. · Working knowledge of the geography of the City of Danville and Boyle County, or ability to the learn geography of the dispatch center territory. Education and Experience: · HS Diploma or GED. · 2-3 years of prior telecommunications experience is required. · Must have valid and current driver’s license. · Working knowledge of local government is a plus. Certifications: · KY 911 state certification is required. · Leadership 911 certification, or the ability to complete within 1st year of employment. · Intermediate and Advanced 911 certification is preferred. Physical Requirements: · Ability to lift up to 20lbs occasionally. · Walking, twisting, stooping, and bending on a regular basis. · Must have the ability to sit a workstation for extended periods of time. · Ability to wear headsets and use phone systems on a regular basis. · Ability to view computer monitors for extended periods of time. · Must have adequate hearing levels with or without assistance in order to understand communication across various media platforms. · Must have 20/20 vision with or without corrective lenses. Compensation: The salary range for the position is $40,270 - $54,807 annually. The candidate's starting salary will be commensurate with their level of emergency dispatch experience.
