Senior Test Automation Engineer Sydney | Hybrid | Contract | 

Daily rate: $800-900p/d inc S

We’re partnering with a major banking organisation to hire a Senior Test Automation Engineer for a new technology platform being built from the ground up.

This is not a role where you’ll inherit a mature automation framework. The platform is still being established, so we’re looking for someone who has previously helped set up testing capability from scratch and can take ownership of the automation approach, tooling and standards.

You’ll work closely with software engineers, data engineers and platform teams to establish how the new platform is tested across applications, APIs, integrations and data.

The role You’ll be responsible for helping establish the testing capability for a new cloud-based platform, including:

• Designing and building automation frameworks from the ground up
• Establishing the overall automation approach, standards and best practices
• Building automated tests using Playwright or similar modern frameworks
• Developing API and integration test automation
• Performing data testing across pipelines, transformations and downstream systems
• Validating data quality, accuracy and reconciliation using SQL
• Testing applications and services running within GCP
• Integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines
• Working closely with engineering teams to build quality into the development lifecycle
• Helping determine what should be automated and where manual testing remains appropriate
• Improving test coverage, reliability and overall engineering quality as the platform grows

What we’re looking for

• Strong experience as a Senior Test Automation Engineer, QA Engineer or SDET
• Previous experience setting up automation frameworks and testing capability from scratch
• Strong hands-on automation experience with Playwright or similar tools
• Strong API and integration testing experience
• Solid data testing experience, including SQL and validation of data pipelines and transformations
• Commercial GCP experience within modern cloud environments
• Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD
• Experience working on greenfield platform or large-scale transformation programmes
• Strong understanding of modern testing practices across distributed systems
• Banking or financial services experience highly regarded
