Senior Test Engineer (Automation, Data & AI Testing)

We are seeking an experienced Senior Test Engineer to join a high-performing technology team in Sydney. This is an exciting opportunity for a professional with strong expertise in test automation, data platform testing, CI/CD pipelines, and AI-driven testing practices who is passionate about delivering high-quality, reliable software solutions. Due to the nature of this engagement, Australian Citizenship is mandatory.

About the Role

As a Senior Test Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the quality, performance, and reliability of enterprise applications and data platforms. You will work closely with developers, business analysts, data engineers, and product teams to design and execute comprehensive testing strategies while leveraging modern automation and AI-powered testing tools.

This role offers the opportunity to work across cutting-edge technologies, including Databricks, SQL Server, SSIS, Azure DevOps, automated testing frameworks, and AI-enabled quality engineering practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain comprehensive test strategies, test plans, and quality assurance frameworks.
• Design, build, and support robust automated testing frameworks using tools such as Selenium and other modern automation technologies.
• Perform exploratory, functional, integration, regression, and system testing activities.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business and technical requirements and translate them into effective testing solutions.
• Conduct performance, scalability, and load testing using tools such as JMeter or LoadRunner.
• Implement and maintain Continuous Integration and Continuous Testing pipelines within CI/CD environments.
• Develop and maintain automated tests for data platforms and data pipelines, including Databricks workloads, SQL Server databases, and SSIS packages using Python and SQL.
• Validate end-to-end data solutions, including data quality, reconciliation, transformation logic, orchestration, security, and performance.
• Leverage AI/ML and Large Language Model (LLM) tools to support test planning, test case generation, test data creation, log analysis, anomaly detection, and test result analysis, ensuring appropriate human validation and governance.
• Produce detailed testing metrics, reports, and quality dashboards.
• Participate in code reviews and provide recommendations to improve testability, quality, and maintainability.
• Stay current with emerging technologies, testing trends, and best practices in quality engineering.

Skills & Experience Required

Essential

• Strong experience in software testing methodologies, quality engineering, and test automation.
• Proven experience building and maintaining automated testing frameworks.
• Strong API testing experience using tools such as Postman.
• Advanced scripting skills in Python, Java, JavaScript, or similar languages.
• Strong Python capability for test automation, data validation, and reusable testing utilities.
• Hands-on experience testing Databricks environments, including:
  • Notebooks
  • Jobs and workflows
  • Delta Tables
  • Data pipelines
  • Data quality controls
• Advanced SQL testing experience using SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS).
• Experience testing:
  • Complex SQL queries
  • Stored procedures
  • Data transformations
  • Data reconciliation processes
  • ETL/ELT solutions
• Strong experience testing SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) packages and data integrations.
• Experience implementing and supporting CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps, GitLab CI, or similar tools.
• Experience working within Agile delivery teams across both project and BAU environments.
• Demonstrated experience using AI/ML and LLM tools to support software testing activities responsibly and effectively.

Desirable

• Experience with enterprise-scale data platforms and cloud-based data solutions.
• Knowledge of data governance, data quality frameworks, and data observability tools.
• Exposure to modern DevOps and Quality Engineering practices.
• Experience with synthetic test data generation and AI-assisted quality assurance processes.
