SENIOR THEATRE PRACTITIONER/SFA

One Hatfield Hospital has a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Senior Theatre Practitioner/SFA to join our friendly and dynamic team on a FlexiBank contract. Working as part of a busy, efficient team to ensure a high standard of individualised patient care and safety. This will include working as a Surgical First Assistant and Theatre Practitioner.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Registered Nurse with NMC or
  • Registered Operating Department Practitioner with HCPC
  • Surgical First Assistant Certificate (Accredited University Course)

EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum of 2 years clinical experience as Surgical First Assistant / Scrub Practitioner
  • Evidence of continuous professional development and its application

SKILLS

  • Demonstrable knowledge and skills in a variety of specialties. With will include General, ENT, Gynaecology, Urology, Plastics and Orthopaedics.
  • Patient focussed, able to deliver high level of customer service.
  • Sound written, numerical, and verbal communication skills.
  • Sound computer skills using MS Office Suite and Compucare(training provided).
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs of the business.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently as required.
  • Enthusiasm for cross-functional working, such as day care.
Responsibilities

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES OF THE ROLE:

  • Support the Theatre team in the care of patients prior to and during surgery.
  • Undertake all safety checks to a high standard, documenting as per procedure.
  • Assess patient care requirements, implementing and evaluating outcomes. Ensure the highest standards of infection prevention and control.
  • Ensure that all documentation relating to patient care is within the boundaries of the national and hospital guidelines for good record keeping.
  • Ensure that all incidents, accidents, and near misses are appropriately recorded and reported. Participate in investigations and implement changes to practice.
  • Ensure adequate stock levels are maintained.
  • Support with mentoring junior members of the team, assessing competencies, as well as supporting and identifying individual training needs.
  • Support new business initiatives and assist with their implementation
  • Provide clinical expertise.
  • Take the lead in your clinical area for assigned cases, organising activities, and ensuring maintenance of a safe environment.
  • Ensure audits are undertaken and action plans put in place for improvement.
