JOB SUMMARY

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for thermodynamic design considerations of steam turbines.
  • Provide direct contributor work on energy distribution and optimization within steam turbines.
  • Address and solve problematic flow issues related to thermal energy within turbine systems.
  • Collaborate with aerodynamic engineers to ensure optimal thermal performance while balancing aerodynamic design constraints.
  • Compromise thermodynamic and mechanical engineering’s competing design objectives.
  • Support the integration of the thermodynamic design with mechanical, acoustic, and aerodynamic disciplines.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field with a minimum of 5 years of experience
  • Fluency in technologies and application domain
  • Ability to lead a technical group independently
  • US citizenship required
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance required

  • Proficiency in conducting thermodynamic 0D, 1D (meanline), and 2D (throughflow) type analyses using commercial simulation software or equivalent developed code.
  • Experience in turbine loss models for primary, secondary and tertiary loss mechanisms.
  • Experience in the shaping of the overall flow path to enable stable flow and energy distribution.
  • Experience in utilizing steam as a working fluid.
  • Experience addressing flow issues and optimization in turbine systems.
  • Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams, balancing thermal, aerodynamic, and mechanical constraints

  • Capability to execute thermodynamic analyses for various applications within rotating machinery beyond the steam flow path
  • Analysis of seals and packing
  • Analysis of valves and exhaust hoods

  • Knowledge of commercial RANS CFD software complemented by thermodynamic analysis tools
