Are you an experienced Trading Standards professional looking for a new challenge within a dynamic and supportive local authority? The Public Protection Partnership is seeking a Senior Trading Standards Officer to join our Public Protection Service, working alongside a team of dedicated professionals to ensure the highest standards of trading and consumer protection within our community.

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:

  • A relevant Trading Standards qualification (e.g. Diploma in Trading Standards).
  • Extensive experience working within a Trading Standards environment, with a solid understanding of legislation and enforcement practices.
  • Excellent investigative and analytical skills, with the ability to gather and evaluate evidence
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Proactive and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Leadership qualities, with the ability to mentor and support junior colleagues

Responsibilities

As a Senior Trading Standards Officer reporting to the Principal Trading Standards Officer, you will play a key role in delivering Trading Standards services to the West Berkshire, Wokingham and Bracknell area.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting inspections and investigations to ensure compliance with Trading Standards legislation.
  • Advising businesses and consumers on their rights and responsibilities.
  • Enforcing legislation and taking appropriate action against offenders.
  • Collaborating with other regulatory agencies and enforcement bodies.
  • Providing guidance and support to junior officers and apprentices.
  • Preparing reports, evidence, and case files for legal proceedings.
  • Line managing junior officers

In addition to your day-to-day enforcement activities, you will also have the opportunity to contribute to the development and implementation of service improvements, policy initiatives, and educational campaigns aimed at raising consumer awareness.
