The Opportunity  Moonee Valley City Council is seeking an experienced Senior Traffic & Transport Engineer to provide expert advice and deliver effective transport, traffic, road safety and parking solutions that support a safe, connected and sustainable community. Working within the Engineering Services & Capital Works Delivery team, you will play a key role in investigating complex traffic and transport matters, managing projects and supporting the delivery of actions under Council’s Municipal Parking Strategy and broader transport policies. This role provides the opportunity to influence outcomes across the municipality by working closely with internal teams, government agencies, consultants, residents and the wider community. You will bring strong technical expertise, sound judgement and a collaborative approach to developing practical solutions that improve transport outcomes for the community. Key Responsibilities * Investigate, assess and respond to traffic, transport, road safety and parking matters, providing practical and sustainable solutions aligned with Council policies, standards and legislation. * Lead and coordinate key transport projects, including actions identified within Council’s Municipal Parking Strategy and other transport-related strategies and plans. * Prepare high-quality reports, recommendations and advice for senior management, Council and stakeholders on traffic engineering and transport matters. * Develop, review and contribute to transport policies, strategies, guidelines and procedures. * Manage projects from concept through to completion, including preparing project briefs, managing consultants and monitoring delivery against budgets and timelines. * Build strong relationships and collaborate with internal teams, government authorities, community groups, residents and external stakeholders to achieve positive transport outcomes. * Provide technical advice and support to colleagues, consultants and stakeholders on traffic management, transport planning and road safety matters. Skills & Experience The ideal candidate will have a degree qualification in civil engineering, transport, planning or a related discipline, with substantial experience in traffic engineering and transport planning. A postgraduate qualification is desirable. You will have demonstrated experience in developing and delivering transport projects, undertaking community consultation and applying relevant legislation, standards and guidelines within a local government or similar environment. With strong project management skills, you will be able to analyse complex information, develop innovative solutions and manage competing priorities to deliver quality outcomes. You will also have highly developed communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to prepare clear reports, influence outcomes and build positive relationships with a range of stakeholders. Experience managing consultants, contractors or staff will be highly regarded.
