Your role and responsibilities
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include responding to planning consultations on behalf of the Local Highway Authority. This will involve liaising with a variety of people, internally and externally, to agree design principles for new development and secure infrastructure improvements to mitigate the impact of development and enhance accessibility for all.
You will formulate responses to Local Plans and Neighbourhood Plans on behalf of the Local Highway Authority, helping to shape sustainable places in which we live, work and enjoy recreation. You will also support colleagues with developing town wide transport plans including proposals for suitable schemes in those locations.
You will manage the work of Transport Planning Engineers and Technicians and assist with their development.
You will need
- passion for promoting high standards of sustainable transport in new developments by influencing a wide audience as to the benefits for the people of Suffolk
- high level understanding of all aspects of highway design and construction and relevant sections of the Highway Act
- significant experience in interpreting complex transport assessments and responding to developers/consultants
- capability of representing the team at meetings with internal and external organisations (as appropriate) to provide expert advice in area of work, sometimes in challenging circumstances.

The Transport Planning team is part of the Transport Strategy team, helping to deliver growth in Suffolk. The team is responsible for:
- development management, ensuring new developments are sustainable in highway terms to support Suffolk’s growth ambitions
- developing transport policy, including the Local Transport Plan and town wide transport plans
- securing funding, and the delivery of new transport infrastructure and initiatives, including active travel.
