    KGS Group is seeking a Senior Transportation Design Engineer to join our growing Transportation department in our Winnipeg office.

ABOUT YOU

We’re looking for an applicant to bring forward a good mix of qualifications and previous experiences. Some ideal qualifications could include:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer or Specified Scope of Practice Licensee with EGM (P.Eng. or Eng.L)
  • Ten (10) or more years of related work experience in Canadian urban and/or rural highway and roadway design
  • Strong understanding of geometric design standards such as TAC guidelines, AASHTO and local standards
  • Demonstrated knowledge of associated engineering software (examples include AutoCAD, Civil 3D, InfoWorks CS, AASHTO ME, ParkCAD, Nexus, Torus, RoadEng, InRoads, Microstation)
  • Demonstrated success in leading multi-disciplinary teams
  • Experience managing project budgets and schedules
  • Experience working directly with clients, managing existing relationships and forming new ones
  • Strong written communication skills and the ability to produce and review delegate proposals, technical memos and technical reports
  • Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to lead public engagement sessions, client meetings and project presentations
  • Ability to mentor, supervise and provide technical guidance to junior and intermediate staff
  • Special consideration will be given to individuals who bring:
  • Existing relationships and/or previous experience with City of Winnipeg and Manitoba Transportation & Infrastructure
  • Experience designing urban and/or rural roads and highways within Manitoba
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and propensity for business development

THE ROLE

Our transportation team provides custom solutions that push boundaries to meet the infrastructure demands of today and for the future. Our team creates solutions that strive for improved transportation mobility and safety for all users while considering the impacts to public health, the environment and society. Reporting to the Head of Transportation, this position will be responsible for design oversight on projects for clients that include Manitoba Transportation & Infrastructure, the City of Winnipeg, a broad range of urban & rural municipalities and the private sector.
You will lead the design, coordination and delivery of a wide range of transportation infrastructure projects including urban roadways, highways, intersections, roundabouts, transit corridors and active transportation facilities. Your projects will be diverse in size, complexity and location with many providing the opportunity to develop innovative, practical solutions to solve complex transportation challenges. You will work in a collaborative environment with extensive support from the planning, design and construction staff in our Transportation Department and others throughout our multi-disciplinary firm. You will participate in business development and play a large role in mentoring the team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the design and delivery on a wide variety of transportation infrastructure projects including urban roadways, highways, intersections, roundabouts, transit corridors and active transportation facilities
  • Manage multi-disciplinary teams from initial conceptualization through to final completion.
  • Ensure quality projects are delivered on time and within approved budgets in coordination with discipline leads
  • Serve as the primary contact for clients, stakeholders and approval agencies
  • Prepare and review technical proposals, fee estimates and design work packages
  • Lead public engagement sessions, client meetings and project presentations
  • Maintain existing client relationships and develop new business opportunities
  • Supervise and mentor junior & intermediate staff with their professional development
  • Participate in and promote KGS Group’s safety-first culture
