Under the general direction of the Office Chief of Safe System Approach Integration, a Supervising Transportation Engineer (Manager), the incumbent, a Senior Transportation Engineer, serves as the supervisor and a Program Advisor for the State Highway System (SHS) Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP), and Functional Manager of the SHS-HSIP Branch.
As the Branch Chief, the incumbent serves as a statewide HSIP expert and supervises the review of major state highway system safety improvement concepts that address the safety challenge areas identified in Caltrans’ State Highway Safety Improvement Program against the requirements established in the state HSIP Guidelines. The incumbent recommends approval of the qualifying project concepts for further development under the State Highway Operations and Protection Program. The incumbent coordinates with district safety subject matter experts as well as other offices within the Division of Safety Programs to support the districts in incorporating Safe System best practice into major infrastructure safety improvement projects.
