WSP is currently seeking a Senior Transportation Engineer with municipal design experience to join our Ottawa Transportation Planning and Science Department. This individual will assume a project manager role and meaningfully contribute to a team that plans and designs transportation infrastructure, complete streets and urban mobility solutions.

The Transportation Planning and Science Department offers planning and engineering services for the full spectrum of transportation challenges. These include but are not limited to: Complete Streets Planning and Design, Environmental Assessments (EAs) in accordance with the Municipal Class EA and MTO Class EA, regional and area transportation studies, site specific transportation assessments, transit planning, parking studies, traffic analysis and travel demand forecasting and analysis.

Responsibilities:

  • Preparing and contributing to transportation studies for provincial and municipal roads , conceptual plans, functional and or conceptual design, as well as functional and preliminary design activities;
  • Liaising with clients, project team members, technical agencies, and road authorities regarding project requirements in developing creative and effective solutions;
  • Leading the delivery of transportation design projects, including municipal and private development projects;
  • Collaborating with a team of transportation/traffic engineers, planners, and designers within the Transportation Planning and Science team, as well as other technical disciplines, in applying best practices to develop and implement multi-modal solutions;
  • Overseeing and conducting site plan reviews for several projects ranging from small to large developments to ensure each site functions well based on municipal design standards, including parking and loading;
  • Leading the delivery of construction and traffic management plans for land development projects following Transportation Association of Canada (TAC) and municipal design standards;
  • Preparing and/or oversight of technical memos and reports to communicate technical results and recommendations;
  • Responsible for quality assurance and control with adherence to TAC Geometric Design Standards, municipal design requirements, transportation engineering standards, and best practices;
  • Supervising, training, and mentoring junior and intermediate employees;
  • Continuous knowledge sharing, training, and mentoring to develop your skills and career;
  • Participating in business development initiatives, including conducting research, preparing input for proposals, and coordinating input from the multi-disciplinary team; and
  • Other duties as assigned.
