ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Senior Underwriter in the Infrastructure and Energy Practice, you will hold a key role in shaping VMIA’s approach to underwriting and advising on complex risks, ensuring best practice cover that supports government objectives and sustainable outcomes.
This is an exciting Ongoing opportunity to provide your expertise in the technical underwriting and strategic advice for infrastructure and energy clients across the Victorian public sector.
This is a role with a purpose to use and develop deep industry knowledge to support the delivery and development of a suite of contemporary, competitive insurance offerings and advice to a range of clients with renewable insurance programs.
Reporting to the Head of Infrastructure and Energy Practice within the Risk, Insurance and Claims Solutions (RICS) division you will also lead a team of four.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain deep specialist knowledge of insurance of infrastructure and energy organisations and assets, including underwriting practices, market conditions, and emerging legal or regulatory developments, and use this expertise to guide VMIA’s strategic position and offerings.
  • Deliver expert advice and participate in project briefings, insurance structuring sessions, and client presentations.
  • Partner with brokers, reinsurers, and external advisors to align program structures with market expectations and pricing.
  • Provide mentorship and support to RICS team members, sharing insights and fostering a high-performing, collaborative culture.
  • Represent VMIA in industry forums, working groups, and external engagements related to the Infrastructure & Energy sector.
  • Use underwriting data and reporting to monitor portfolio development, support decision-making, and inform strategic direction.
