This role sits within Laurentian Bank.
The Senior Underwriter will work within the Real Estate Financing Team for Major Accounts, Commercial Banking. The candidate will be part of a highly experienced and reputable team in the real estate market, particularly in building construction and acquisition financing. He/she will work closely with the Senior Account Managers and will be responsible for the disbursement side of construction financing and the legal side of real estate financing. The candidate will be required to determine whether the conditions precedent to financing contracts have been met, and to analyze cost consultant reports and legal drafts. All this while providing exceptional customer service.
The Senior Underwriter will act as a key resource for the Assistant Vice-President.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • University education in an appropriate field, Finance or Accounting or Legal and other related field. A title of notary or lawyer is a major asset
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years experience in a field related to construction financing a major asset.
  • Intellectual curiosity and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong interest in Finance and/or Law and good analytical skills.
  • Attention to detail and meticulousness.
  • Ability to produce quality written correspondence.
  • Sense of collaboration and proactive spirit
  • Good resourcefulness and ability to manage priorities.
  • Ability to manage multiple files/projects simultaneously.
  • Good oral and written communication skills (English an asset)*
  • Provide exceptional customer service to customers and brokers involved in transactions.
  • Knowledge of the Office suite.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze a cost consultant’s report an asset.
  • Professional working proficiency in French and English languages required as position involves frequent written and oral communication on complex matters with internal and external parties in both languages.

Responsibilities
  • Identify and analyze risks and disburse funds associated with construction site financing or property acquisition.
  • Monitor irregularities in customer portfolios and the implementation of collateral in accordance with credit authorization conditions.
  • Participate in meetings or conference calls with customers / broker / notary or cost consultant.
  • Carry out work according to specific practices, policies and objectives while complying with current legislation, Bank policies, programs and procedures.
  • Prepare internal reports for senior management.
