Job Summary:
Work as a team member to assist in assigning and removing conditions needed to move each assigned file from an approved status to a clear to close status. Sr. Underwriters are responsible for evaluating the credit worthiness of the borrower and communicating effectively with the team with regards to findings or items needed in order for borrower to secure final approval on loan options. Sr. Underwriters are responsible for effective communication with the underwriting and processing teams throughout the transaction. Sr. Underwriters will serve as a go-to and provide assistance, supervision and guidance to the Jr. Underwriters. Sr. Underwriters will collaborate effectively with the Senior Management Team. This position requires a high level of customer service, outstanding organizational skills, and thorough knowledge of mortgage lending guidelines, evaluation of residential loan applications to determine program eligibility and credit worthiness of the borrower. Required overtime may be required on an as-needed basis to effectively manage workflow. Position daily duties include, but are not limited to the following and performs other related duties as assigned by management:
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
· Advanced knowledge of Underwriting guidelines and automated Underwriting engines
· Advanced knowledge and experience with calculating Debt to income ratios, analyzing all forms of financial statements used for calculating income
· Proficiency with DU and LP, FHA EAD, FHA Connection and VA Portal
· Recent working experience of FNMA, FHLMC, FHA and VA guidelines
· Proven experience in decision making within a Sr. Underwriting position
· Customer service driven
· Must be able to work overtime as needed
· Excellent analytical ability with strong attention to detail is required
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
· Active DE Chums and VA SAR required
· Minimum 6 years recent full time Mortgage Underwriting experience
· Bachelor’s Degree preferred

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Underwrite residential mortgage loans in accordance with FNMA, FHLMC, FHA and VA internal guidelines ensuring compliance with company and investor standards
· Determine borrower eligibility and issue final lending decision.
· Review and analyze borrower profiles, credit reports, title reports, income documentation and assets, including complex business returns.
· Calculate income and funds to close.
· Review appraisals for accurate property valuation.
· Demonstrate proficiency in automated underwriting applications and ability to assess results
· Manage individual pipeline on a daily basis by completing new underwriting reviews, condition reviews and other underwriting tasks within established turn times.
· Communicate with processing and sales to provide updates, clarification on outstanding conditions and deficiencies identified on loans, and to assist in interpreting underwriting guidelines
· Discuss marginal loans with Underwriting Manager before suspending or declining a file
· Works with the post-closing team to resolve any issues
· Provide loan scenario support to sales and processing teams
· Perform condo project reviews
· Provide training to staff in underwriting guidelines, appraisal reviews and other critical business aspects.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Prolonged periods of time sitting at a desk, working on a computer, and staring at a computer screen

· Occasional bending, stooping twisting and lifting and/or moving up to 10 lbs.
