We’re searching for a Senior Vehicle Platform Systems Safety Engineer. In this role, you will Develop system level requirements for vehicle platforms based on Aurora’s intended application, operation domain, and hardware generations, and manage the exchange of content with OEM and supplier partners Analyze vehicle platform architectures, systems, and interfaces to understand vehicle behavior and identify potential functional, safety, or performance gaps, and propose mitigation strategies where necessary Generate platform-specific integration and fault-handling requirements for implementation by Aurora autonomy teams Develop, document, and execute detailed system level test plans for ensuring system requirements are met Own and deliver evidence to support Aurora’s Safety Case claims related to vehicle platform safety and performance Support new platform / vehicle / system commissioning of actuation interfaces, perform fault injection, analyze data to characterize system performance, support fleet issue troubleshooting, and provide cross-functional coordination Support process improvement initiatives related to ways of working with OEM partners Required Qualifications Experience designing and evaluating systems relative to automotive safety standards (ISO 26262) Four or more years of experience engineering and/or integrating complex automotive or robotic systems Experience managing requirements, traceability, reviews, and releases in industry-standard tools Strong data analysis skills and experience designing and executing experiments on electrical, mechanical, and software systems Knowledge of automotive system architectures and interactions at a component and system level (eg. control system, electrical system, electro-mechanical system) Detailed knowledge of automotive communication standards and hands on experience root causing vehicle issues based on logged data. Strong organizational skills; ability to coordinate efforts and requirements across a large number of stakeholders, internal and external, and across multiple locations BS or MS, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or another relevant engineering field Strong physics and engineering fundamentals spanning electrical, mechanical, and software systems Excellent written and verbal communication skills Desirable Qualifications Experience developing and/or implementing vehicle level control software for major subsystems (powertrain, battery, chassis, etc.) Experience with generating and reviewing safety analyses such as Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment (HARA), Failure mode and Effect analysis (FMEA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), and Dependent Failure Analysis (DFA). Knowledge of class 8 truck-specific systems (e.g. air systems, trailers, etc.) The base salary range for this position is $135,000-$216,000 per year. Aurora’s pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
