We’re searching for a Senior Vehicle Systems and Hardware Safety Engineer.
This role is within Aurora’s Hardware Systems Safety team. The Hardware Systems Safety team provides the interface for development, support and generation of safety relevant work products supporting the overall implementation of the Aurora Driver system. The Hardware Systems Safety team works closely with the broader product development organizations to ensure that an overall holistic approach to ensuring safe implementation of Systems, Hardware, and Software is applied.
The Hardware System Safety team is responsible for driving the Aurora Safety Case claims, generation and support of work products for ISO 26262:2018: Part 2, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6, Part 7, Part 8, Part 9, and ownership of technical safety concepts for vehicle elements and systems of interest along with the support work products such as requirements and analysis for all generations of the Aurora Driver.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Robotics, Physics or a related field.
  • 5+ years circuit design experience
  • Experience designing for mission critical applications
  • Proficiency in circuit analysis
  • Proficiency in EE CAD and simulation software (OrCAD, Altium, LTSpice, etc.)
  • Design experience with high speed interfaces (DDR, PCIe, JESD204, MIPI CSI-2, XAUI, Automotive SerDes, etc.)
  • Proficiency with low speed peripheral interfaces (SPI, I2C, etc.)
  • Demonstrated proficiency with PCBA design-for-manufacturing best practices (JEDEC IPC 600 Class 3, IPC 610 Class 3, etc.)
  • Proficiency interfacing with third parties in an EE design context (component suppliers, contract manufacturers, customers, etc.)
  • Experience working on a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience with end to end design ownership - you have seen your design fielded in a product and directly handled production issue management and sustaining engineering related to your design

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Formal training on ISO 26262 and experience with the application of ISO 26262 in a design engineering role
  • Safety analysis (FMEDA, Quantitative FTA, etc.) and tools (Medini, etc.) expertise
  • Familiarity with Model Based Systems Engineering core concepts
  • Requirements Management experience (Jama, etc.)
  • Embedded systems experience (ARM-based SoCs, FPGAs, etc.)
  • Software experience (C, Python, Go, etc.)
  • Familiarity with fundamentals of machine learning
  • Familiarity with physics of light (Visible, NIR, SWIR, MWIR, etc.)
  • Familiarity with motion control applications, control methods, sensor considerations, etc.
  • Mastery of the V model
  • Systems thinker with the ability to dive deep into hardware and software implementation when required
    The base salary range for this position is $162,000 - $260,000 per year. Aurora’s pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future. The successful candidate will also be eligible for an annual bonus, equity compensation, and benefits.

Responsibilities
  • Perform critical safety analyses (FMEA, FMEDA, FTA, DFA) on E/E systems supporting development of the Aurora Driver Hardware Kit
  • Interrogate circuit board schematics and embedded software implementation within a single board and extended to connecting boards and systems to expose implementation gaps against requirements and potential unintended coupling factors
  • Work collaboratively with engineering teams to generate safety requirements and safety concepts
  • Review and provide technical feedback to hardware, software, and systems teams with a focus on failure modes and mitigations
  • Audit, assess, and provide actionable feedback on safety relevant work products from both internal and external engineering teams
