THE OPPORTUNITY The Senior Vice President, Global Communications will develop and execute a comprehensive global communications strategy to elevate the destination’s brand positioning and identity, and increase organizational visibility across multiple audiences. This role requires a visionary leader to manage all aspects of internal and external communications, public relations, and media relations - including building and leading a high-performing internal team and management of global PR agencies. The ideal candidate brings significant media experience, excellent communications and public speaking skills, and a strategic mindset to drive awareness and engagement. WHAT YOU WILL DO Strategic Communications: Develop a comprehensive global communications strategy that strengthens LA Tourism’s brand positioning, amplifies product pillars, elevates awareness among residents and community leaders, supports legislative priorities, and advances sustainability and workforce development. Measure communications effectiveness (e.g., feature story percentage, Tier 1 media delivery goal, etc.) and provide regular reports to the Executive Team and key stakeholders. (30%) Media Relations & Thought Leadership: Cultivate relationships with top-tier domestic and international media outlets to secure earned media opportunities. Act as primary spokesperson and prepare talking points, speeches, and presentations for Executive leadership. Position LA Tourism as an industry leader through executive thought leadership initiatives, including speaking engagements, authored content, and participation in high-profile industry forums. (15%) Global PR Agency Management: Oversee global P.R. agencies to ensure alignment with the organization’s earned media strategy, establish and monitor annual performance criteria, and conduct annual agency reviews to maintain strong representation in key markets. (15%) Team Leadership: Create a “best in class” Global Communications team by assessing organizational structure, hiring, developing, and retaining top talent to meet LA Tourism’s communications and broader organizational goals. (15%) Reputation & Crisis Management: Assume responsibility for the organization’s crisis management plan and proactively monitor emerging trends that could impact tourism and LA’s reputation. Expand reputation management beyond crisis planning by implementing proactive strategies to safeguard and enhance the organization’s image. (10%) Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with internal teams including Marketing, Sales, Membership, and others, to support their communications needs and ensure message alignment across all organizational initiatives. Maintain consistency of messaging across international markets while allowing for local cultural nuances. (10%) Perform other duties as assigned. (5%) SOME OTHER THINGS YOU MAY DO Serve as the corporate spokesperson, standing in for our Executive Team as needed. Oversee content creation and maintain a calendar for the company’s presence on LinkedIn, ensuring alignment with organizational messaging and thought leadership initiatives. Review external stakeholder communications to identify opportunities to enhance/elevate the messaging. Stay current on emerging trends in Los Angeles and modify key messaging and communications as appropriate. Ensure that all programming is delivered cost effectively and on-budget. WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED Bachelor‘s degree from an accredited four-year college or university preferred. A minimum of 10-12 years relevant experience required. Must possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license and be able to drive a vehicle for work-related travel as needed and as applicable to the position. Must be willing to partake in a comprehensive background check including a drug test in accordance with applicable laws. Willingness to travel at least 25% of the time, with 50% of the travel being international and 50% domestic. Demonstrated experience leading and managing teams, including direct management of at least three (3) employees and responsibility for performance and development. Exceptional public speaking skills, including extensive media experience. High level of emotional intelligence and situational awareness. Significant experience working directly with elected official and other civic leaders. Must be proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Dependable, great attitude, highly motivated and a team player. Possess strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to multi-task and meet multiple deadlines. Ability to communicate effectively across various departments. Ability to work in a changing environment.
