Description The Senior Vice President, Government Affairs will lead FSMB’s federal and state public policy strategy and implementation. This position will be responsible for shaping and advancing advocacy priorities, engagement, strategic partnerships, and regulatory monitoring and reporting in support of FSMB’s mission and the interests of FSMB member boards. The SVP will serve as a key member of the leadership team and work with the FSMB Board of Directors, member boards, Congress, federal agencies, state legislatures, external stakeholder organizations, and internal FSMB teams (member engagement, policy, communications, and education). All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin or status as a protected veteran Key Responsibilities Develop and execute a comprehensive government affairs strategy (federal and state) that advances FSMB’s priorities and enhances its influence and visibility in the regulatory and legislative space. Oversee and mentor a team of government relations consultants and advocacy staff, set strategic priorities, develop and manage the annual department budget, and develop government relations staff capacity and capabilities. Lead FSMB advocacy activities including identifying opportunities (HHS grants/contracts) that promote FSMB products and services, preparing policy positions, testimony, comment letters, and reporting progress quarterly to the FSMB Board of Directors. Drive coalition building and partnerships with key stakeholders (FSMB member boards, national associations, consumer groups, and regulatory/legislative coalitions). Guide constituent interactions with Members of Congress and federal agencies, including arranging meetings with lawmakers and regulators in both Washington, DC and in Congressional Districts, and overseeing FSMB’s annual Hill Day. Monitor and analyze healthcare regulatory and legislative developments, including emerging issues such as telemedicine, healthcare workforce mobility, licensure compacts, non-traditional licensure schemes, and public health emergency response and preparedness. Support FSMB communications functions to ensure alignment of advocacy messaging, digital outreach, media, and public awareness as related to regulatory/policy issues. Represent FSMB in relevant national meetings, conferences, and forums. Qualifications/Education: Advanced degree (J.D.,M.P.H., M.P.P. or equivalent) is strongly preferred. A minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in government affairs, legislative advocacy, regulatory affairs, or public policy – ideally in a healthcare, professional regulation, or association environment. Demonstrated success in federal and/or state legislative and/or regulatory outcomes. Experience working with or within professional associations, healthcare organizations, regulatory boards or agencies, or state or federal government is highly desirable. Proven record of building and leading high-performing teams in advocacy/government affairs. Skills and Attributes: Exceptional strategic thinking, political savviness, and ability to anticipate and respond to complex regulatory and policy dynamics. Superior communication (oral and written) with an ability to craft compelling advocacy narratives, deliver briefings, and engage a diverse stakeholder audience. Excellent internal collaboration skills with an ability to work across functional areas and with external partners. Ability to travel as needed. Strong commitment to the mission of FSMB.
