THE OPPORTUNITY:

Senior Water/Wastewater Process Engineer/Project Manager for our growing Water and Wastewater team based in Winnipeg, MB. Applicants residing outside of Winnipeg will be considered. The successful candidate will act as a design resource and project manager on local and national municipal water and wastewater treatment projects.
The Manitoba Water and Wastewater team is a tight-knit group of professionals ranging from 44 years of experience to less than one year. The team provides design and project management services for municipal clients across Canada, including municipal water and wastewater treatment facilities, pump stations and forcemains, reservoirs, and wastewater collection and water distribution systems.

Responsibilities

You will manage new and existing multi-disciplinary engineering projects and supervise engineering design. Typical types of projects include sampling programs and data collection, feasibility studies, options evaluations, preliminary design, detailed design, and contract administration and commissioning of both new and existing water and wastewater treatment facilities.
You will take on duties as a senior engineer/project manager, working to prepare proposals and time/task matrices, developing and executing scopes of work, managing project financials and deliverables, and overseeing the work of junior and intermediate engineers. This can include other engineering disciplines within WSP, and external resources such as subcontractors. You will be expected to manage subcontracts, health and safety plans, quality management plans, and other key project management documents.
You will also be encouraged to take on new responsibilities, engage new clients, and bring forward new ideas for growing or optimizing the business. WSP provides opportunities for active engagement with management and leadership at all levels, as well as support programs for mentorship, leadership development, and mental health management.

Typical project tasks may entail the following:

  • Design of municipal water and wastewater treatment systems, including water/wastewater characterization, bench and pilot-scale treatability evaluations, PFD and P&ID development, production of detailed engineering drawings and specifications, construction supervision, and commissioning;
  • Economic and technical evaluation of treatment technologies;
  • Design, specification, and tendering of major process equipment purchases;
  • Economic and technical evaluation of specific treatment equipment; and,
  • Permitting and regulatory submittals.

Typical project management duties may include:

  • Managing task execution, and providing guidance to project personnel;
  • Working with other disciplines and coordinating design tasks;
  • Managing subcontractors;
  • Reviewing and managing budgets and project spend;
  • Maintaining a project schedule;
  • Communicating with clients and managing expectations;
  • Managing change;
  • Developing health and safety documentation; and,Reviewing and approving billings.
