Description

The University of Maryland School of Graduate Studies (UMSGS) has an opportunity for a Senior Web Specialist to support the comprehensive content review and restructuring of the school’s external website. This full-time contract position will report to the Director of Communications and work closely with the University of Maryland, Baltimore’s (UMB) Office of Communications and Public Affairs to align the website with institutional branding, improve user experience, and ensure strategic content alignment.
This role does not involve web development. However, the ideal candidate will have experience with content management systems (CMS) and a working knowledge of web standards, accessibility, and SEO best practices.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Expertise in web writing, content strategy, and information architecture.
  • Proficiency with content management systems.
  • Familiarity with Google Analytics to assess web performance.
  • Knowledge of SEO, web usability, and WCAG accessibility standards.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Hiring Range: $70,000 - $78,000, commensurate with education and experience.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as a key partner in the school’s website overhaul project.
  • Conduct a comprehensive audit of existing website content and site architecture.
  • Identify outdated, redundant, or missing content and propose enhancements.
  • Contribute to the development of a content strategy and revised site map to support restructuring efforts.
  • Write, edit, and optimize web content to reflect the school’s brand and key messaging.
  • Collaborate with staff and subject matter experts to gather and refine content.
  • Apply accessibility (WCAG) and SEO best practices across all content updates.
  • Use the TerminalFour (T4) CMS to update and maintain web content throughout the project.
  • Act as the primary liaison of contact for content-related website efforts in coordination with communications, marketing, and technical teams.
  • Manage timelines, priorities, and deliverables to ensure on-time project completion.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
    Qualifications
    Education: Bachelor’s degree in public relations, computer science, communications, marketing, journalism, business administration, or a closely related field.
    Experience: Four (4) years of experience in communications, journalism, technical writing, marketing, or web development.
    Other: Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 undergraduate college credits being equivalent to one year of related experience. In instances where specific education and/or experience is required only directly related education and/or experience may be substituted.
