KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Between 7 and 10 years of comprehensive WHS experience.
  • Extensive experience in workplace health and safety, ideally across complex operational or project environments.
  • Strong understanding of contemporary WHS theory and safety science, including the role of systems thinking, work-as-done, and human performance in enabling safe work.
  • Leadership, team building, and negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build trust, collaborate, and influence across frontline teams, leaders, and executives.
  • Experience coaching and mentoring others to think critically about risk, work design, and improvement opportunities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate safety concepts into practical business language.
  • Confident operating at both strategic and operational levels, with sound business acumen.
  • Skilled in WHS auditing and knowledge of ISO 45001, with the ability to balance assurance with learning.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, navigate ambiguity, and support continuous improvement.
  • High proficiency in project management, stakeholder engagement, and the use of digital tools (e.g. Microsoft Office).

QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION:

  • Qualifications in Workplace Health & Safety will be highly regarded.
  • Exposure to or formal study in contemporary safety science (e.g. systems thinking, Safety Differently, HOP, resilience engineering) –desirable
  • Qualifications or experience in auditing, incident investigation, or training and assessment – desirable.
  • Current C Class driver’s licence – essential.

Special working conditions

  • Some intrastate and interstate travel may be required (e.g. field and project site visits).
  • Some after-hours availability may be required for the management of operational issues.

Responsibilities

Vocus is seeking two Senior WHS Advisors to play a pivotal role in ensuring the highest standards of workplace health and safety.
They can be based in Melbourne or Sydney.
As the Senior WHS Advisor, you will provide dedicated business partnering to Vocus, focusing on Workplace Health & Safety.

Key responsibilities

  • Supporting frontline field managers in ensuring onsite WHS compliance with Build Standards and Practices, as well as State and Federal requirements, and provide tools and information for championing WHS on-site.
  • Support in the implementation and monitoring of Hazard Identification and Risk Management processes, assist in reviewing SWMS for projects and construction activities, and manage incident investigations, including report preparation and recommendations.
  • Assist Line Management in implementing and maintaining Contractor Management Workplace Health & Safety practices.
  • Assist Line Management in implementing and maintaining the Critical Risk Management Assurance Program for their areas of responsibility.
  • Offer resources and guidance for conducting effective daily pre-start meetings and Toolbox Meetings, along with providing strategies and support for conflict resolution.
  • Contribute to the delivery and enhancement of audit and surveillance programs and aid in updating risk assessments and risk registers.
  • Collaborate in developing and delivering safety-related training, including inductions and on-the-job training, and assist in employee rehabilitation and Return to Work planning.

General

  • Working with Line Management to build and implement Workplace Health & Safety solutions in line with business strategy.
  • Assisting with the delivery of all Workplace Health & Safety activities including, training needs analysis, training delivery, training vendor relationship management, course participation management, training logistics, and/or other services.
  • Providing recommendations and solutions covering specific areas of Workplace Health & Safety including Return to Work planning, accidents and injuries investigation, corrective and preventative measures, organisational facility inspections, while complying with local, state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Identifying and delivering long-term strategies within the Workplace Health & Safety environment.
  • Providing interpretation and counsel to Line Management regarding Workplace Health & Safety policies, programs, and practices.
  • Researching issues and developing solutions to resolve Workplace Health & Safety business issues.
  • Developing and implementing new Workplace Health & Safety policies, practices, and programs to meet organizational and Line Management needs.
  • Assist in developing an organizational WHS vision and 3-year strategy.
  • Assist in the management of ISO 45001 certification maintenance.
