ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Manage the WIL Social Sciences and Social Work team in the planning, sourcing and organisation of placements
  • Arrange placements for students according to required criteria and circumstances, ensuring a high level of professionalism
  • Take responsibility for their placement discipline portfolio by identifying and negotiating suitable professional work placements and ensuring all government and accreditation requirements are met on time
  • Develop and maintain relationships with UNSW internal stakeholders (e.g., School of Social Sciences, Careers and Employability, Equitable Learning Services) in the coordination, support and facilitation of student placements
  • Build and maintain external partnerships to establish a long-term relationship to enhance the placement experience
  • Work closely with Academic convenor/s and student services to facilitate the identification, monitoring and support of ‘at risk’ students
  • Together with Academic convenor/s, support placement liaison allocations, information sessions for students and enquiries
  • Provide the main point of contact for students in relation to their pre-placement planning and to ensure students are meeting requirements.

  • Relevant tertiary qualification and/or experience within health, welfare and/or policy sectors or an equivalent level of knowledge and experience
  • Strong experience in relationship management with proven success in providing a positive partnership experience with a key focus on long-term partnership development and high-level stakeholder engagement
  • Demonstrated skills in project management, managing workloads, setting priorities, and driving both core and strategic outcomes in a complex, fast-paced environment
  • High level interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills with the ability to deal with complex and/or sensitive matters confidentially and discreetly, engaging with a range of stakeholders including academics, professional staff and professional networks
  • Highly developed administrative and organisational skills with the ability to establish priorities and coordinate office support in a busy environment
  • High level proficiency in a range of computing skills including word processing, spreadsheets and databases with the ability to learn and promote the use of new systems.
Responsibilities

The Work Integrated Learning team supports the development of School and Faculty initiatives to support and strengthen student engagement programs in order to positively influence the student experience. This includes identifying, developing and implementing student development opportunities to enhance the student experience and ensure work-readiness. The Work Integrated Learning team is responsible for the placement and professional experience students complete as part of their course requirements.
The Senior Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Officer will coordinate the WIL team responsible for placing students in opportunities within their allocated disciplines, including Social Sciences and Social Work. In doing so, the Senior WIL Officer will liaise with internal and external stakeholders to identify and obtain appropriate placements (including internships). The Senior WIL Officer overseas the team in preparing students for placements and supports the development and maintenance of administrative systems for student placement processes and policies.
