Job Title:                       Senior Work Leader Department:                  Public Works & Transportation Division:                        Sewer Maintenance Salary:                           $45,897.00 yearly / $22.065865 hourly Closing Date:                Until Filled Job Summary/ Scope Schedules and supervises work of assigned crews involved in the inspection, maintenance, repair and construction of sewer facilities.  Direct supervisory responsibilities.  Assists with budget preparation for the Sewer Maintenance division.  Supervisory Responsibility Integral to the position of Work Leader is the responsibility for developing subordinates to their fullest potential by exercising appropriate degrees of coaching, training, guiding, evaluating, correcting and, if necessary, disciplining. Essential Duties and Responsibilities * PLANS and schedules daily tasks and assign’s work orders to crews. * SUPERVISE crews and inspect work in progress. * INSTRUCTS and trains employees in proper equipment operation, work methods, and safety procedures. * RECEIVES and resolves complaints such as sewer backups, problems with manholes and storm inlets, bad odors, cave-ins and other related complaints. * DISPATCHES men and equipment to emergency sewer work during and after normal working hours. * COORDINATES the manhole inspection schedule, assigning work based on set priorities. * MAINTAINS computer records of repairs and maintenance and processes necessary paperwork. * OVERSEES material control and requisitions materials to be purchased. * ESTIMATES materials, manpower, and equipment needed for budgetary purposes. * OVERSEES City-hired contractors repairing and maintaining City sewer facilities, including scheduling, inspection of work, and final approval. * ENSURING proper locates have been called in to MO One Call and reporting any damage to utilities or mismarked utilities. * ENSURES proper and safe shoring practices are performed and regularly inspects and evaluates all equipment to ensure proper and safe working condition. * INSPECTS and EVALUATES all safety equipment ensure proper and safe working condition. * COMPLETES accident reports. * PREPARES Employee evaluations as required. Other Duties and Responsibilities PERFORMS ALL other related duties as assigned. Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities * KNOWLEDGE of the proper procedures for safety around and in an excavation, proper shoring methods, and proper procedures for performing in a confined space entry.  * ABILITY to lead and direct work activities of others. * SKILLS in Microsoft Office and knowledge of asset management software required. * ABILITY to maintain inventory of parts and keep accurate records. * ABILITY to train others in the safe and proper use of equipment. * ABILITY to interpret federal, state, and local laws. * ABILITY to interpret site plans and technical drawings of new sewer installations. * ABILITY to communicate effectively and prepare concise and accurate reports * VALID Class A CDL with Tanker and endorsement required. * REQUIRED to be on-call and/or carry a pager and respond to emergencies as needed. * KNOWLEDGE of proper ADA procedures and grade percentages. Materials and Equipment Directly Used Uses a variety of tools and equipment including shovel, pickaxe, soldering iron, electric welder, electronic diagnostic tools, and electronic utility locating devices.  Operates personal computer, along with specialized software. Working Environment/Physical Requirements Work is performed under a variety of conditions ranging from confined spaces, large excavations, sewer odors, sanitary sewerage, vermin, extreme cold, heat, wind and wet.  Occasional lifting of objects weighing less than 80 pounds and infrequently lift objects in excess of 80 pounds with assistance. Employee Behavior and Conduct City employees shall conduct themselves in a professional manner and shall exhibit and extend such professional conduct appropriate for the circumstances to those with whom they come into contact both internally and externally during the performance of their duties.  Examples of professional conduct include, but are not limited to, being communicative, informative, fair, honest, and respectful.
