Bring passion and dedication to your job and there’s no telling what you could accomplish. Dynamic, smart people and inspiring, innovative technologies are the norm here. The people who work here have reinvented entire industries with all Apple Hardware products. The same passion for innovation that goes into our products also applies to our practices strengthening our commitment to leave the world better than we found it. Join us to help deliver the next groundbreaking Apple product. Do you love working on challenges that no one has solved yet? As a member of our dynamic group, you will have the unique and rewarding opportunity to craft upcoming products that will delight and inspire millions of Apple’s customers every single day. Apple’s Biophotonics Group is seeking an experienced engineer with cross functional expertise in optics, electronics, optoelectronic devices, mechanical design, and signal processing to join a team of innovative scientists and engineers to design, validate, and implement the next generation of bio-sensing technologies. The candidate will have experience with determining specifications and collaborating with multiple disciplines to design, simulate, and evaluate devices that perform optical biosensing. Experience with complex engineering trade-offs is required.

DESCRIPTION

The responsibilities of this role will include but are not limited to: • Work with optical, mechanical, electronics, and signal processing teams to ensure sensors meet performance requirements in various environmental conditions. • Track and understand how design changes in one area (e.g. electrical or mechanical components) interact with the functionality of other areas in order to ensure the changes are not detrimental relative to sensor performance requirements. • Facilitate discussions and decisions on design trade-offs between the various disciplines as they relate to overall sensor performance. • Interact with various disciplines on FMEA of each design component; e.g. optical, mechanical, electrical, etc. and lead the analysis of failures that may be caused by interactions between these various components.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS degree in physics, optics, engineering, or related field
  • Ten years of industry experience in sensor design and fabrication
  • Five or more years of industry experience in biomedical sensor development including validation of sensor performance using clinical data
  • Experience with system integration of electronic and opto-mechanical components

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Twenty years of relevant industry experience in sensor design and fabrication
  • Expertise being the interface between engineering disciplines to ensure comprehensiveness and compatibility of optical, mechanical, and electronics designs for biomedical sensors
  • Experience with connecting design decisions with sensor performance via previous product and development experience and working with senior engineers to navigate architectural decisions
  • Demonstrated ability to understand the interaction between sources of instrument variability, measured sensor signals, and the outputs of models based on such signals
  • Experience with a variety of optical spectroscopy instrumentation (e.g., near- and mid-infrared spectral regions using FTIR, ATR, Raman) and how they pertain to biomedical applications
  • Understanding of physiology sufficient to understand how it can manifest in biomedical sensor data
  • Communication skills sufficient to understand, summarize, and communicate complex engineering interactions to audiences at different levels
