Purpose: Oversees service operations within the dealership to maximize return on investment by optimizing Service Department processes to ensure internal and external customer satisfaction. Grows profitable service labor sales and exercises disciplined expense control. Attracts, retains, and effectively engages department personnel. Responsibilities: Manage the entire work order cycle process, generation through closing and invoicing for customer and internal work. Provide guidance and generate quotes for customer machine repairs. Sell service labor and parts ensuring all techs are highly productive so that budgets and goals are met. Work with Service Manager to identify and execute continuous process improvements. Communicate, enforce, and monitor effective Service Department processes to ensure internal and external customer satisfaction. Schedule and assign jobs and work areas to employees in the Service Department according to their skills and knowledge. Review work orders for completeness and accuracy prior to customer billing. Ensure all service Warranty and Product Improvement Programs are completed, and submitted to Centralized Warranty Administrator within the required timeframe to receive maximum credit. Ensure all departmental tools, equipment, and vehicles are in good working order. Actively coach, develop, and help employees grow their capabilities. Participate in the employee review processes. Proactively seek and participate in company‐sponsored training, to develop and advance knowledge base and skill set. Maintain knowledge of John Deere and competitive products. Ensure that company’s reputation and image in the community are consistent with company Core Values. Maintain a positive and professional working relationship with peers, management, and support resources, with a constant commitment to teamwork and exemplary customer service. Experience, Education, Skills, and Knowledge: High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience required; Associate’s degree preferred 3+ years’ experience in Service Department operations Ability to use standard desktop applications such as Microsoft Office and internet-based functions Experience with off-road, construction, lawn, or heavy equipment Ability to write and speak effectively to individuals and groups Experience working cooperatively in a team environment Ability to effectively guide a team and hold people accountable Familiar with John Deere and competitive products Basic understanding of financial principles relative to Service Department operations Ability to analyze and interpret internal reports Ability to work extended hours and weekends as needed Excellent customer service skills Experience communicating effectively Valid driver’s license required; CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) preferred Driving record that meets Employer’s insurance company requirements Additional Requirements: Ability to pass DOT physical examination and obtain a Medical Examiner’s Certificate may be required.
