Description

About Us:
Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. This goes for the emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles we build, and the curious, courageous souls we seek to attract.
As a company, we constantly challenge what’s possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations.
Role Summary:
As a Service Lab Technician specializing in service subassembly builds, you will play a key hands-on role in both the technical operations of our service lab and the assembly of critical structural components. You’ll collaborate closely with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure finished assemblies meet Rivian’s high safety and quality standards, while supporting continuous improvement throughout the build, inspection, and test process.

Responsibilities:

  • Assemble service subassembly parts according to engineering drawings and established build procedures, ensuring accuracy and completeness for each unit.
  • Set up, operate, and maintain equipment and tooling specific to subassembly fabrication, measurement, and installation.
  • Inspect all parts and assemblies for quality, utilizing gauges and testing devices to verify compliance with Rivian’s requirements.
  • Assist in repairs and targeted inspections related to recalls and containment actions, following defined processes and completing associated documentation.
  • Perform validation builds and process verifications, ensuring assembly methods meet intended performance, safety, and compliance standards.
  • Conduct time studies and collect process data during subassembly builds or related activities, as time allows, supporting ongoing process improvement.
  • Document assembly processes, parts issues, deviations, and inspection results, communicating findings to appropriate technical or supervisory staff.
  • Support the service lab’s daily operations, including equipment calibration, organizing inventory, and tracking parts usage.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide feedback on assembly and repair procedures, and recommend improvements for efficiency, safety, and manufacturability.
  • Perform root cause analysis for defective subassembly builds, assembly issues, or identified recall/containment items, implementing corrective actions as necessary.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, adhering to all environmental health and safety guidelines.
  • Assist with setup, execution, and documentation of tests on completed subassembly as requested by engineering or quality teams.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a technical, mechanical, or assembly-related role, preferably within automotive or advanced manufacturing environments.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings, work instructions, and process documentation.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and comfort working with hand, power, and precision measuring tools.
  • Attention to detail with a commitment to delivering high-quality assemblies and maintaining accurate records.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a fast-paced, dynamic team setting.
  • Basic computer skills for inventory tracking, documentation, and communication.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate’s degree, trade school certification, or equivalent experience in a mechanical, automotive, or technical field.
  • Experience with industrial assembly, metal fabrication, or structural component troubleshooting and testing.
  • Background working with recalls, containment protocols, or quality repair campaigns is a plus.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing, 5S, time studies, and continuous improvement
