Description

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Reporting to the COO, this role provides expertise in all areas construction deficiencies, service and maintenance of completed buildings (framing, forming and finishing) for renovation and residential construction projects. Ensures construction and safety standards are met and exercises considerable independent judgment and initiative in performing assigned duties. Exercises tact and courtesy when in contact with vendors, contractors, and clients. You are a jack of all trades able to help out where needed with unit turnovers and deficiency lists and random service and maintenance inquiries. You are able to troubleshoot and outsource and problem solve.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

· Grade 12 with either carpentry ticket or level of on-the-job training acceptable to the company (normally 5+ years)

  • Knowledge of local building codes
  • Keep professional knowledge current through individual continuous study
  • Participate in appropriate seminars, workshops, and technical forums as required by the company
  • Dedicated to quality and service
  • Work experience with projects in the $1-5M range
  • Works productively and harmoniously with others consistently

  • Good oral communication skills in English
  • Must have a valid drivers license and reliable vehicle
  • Must maintain Level 1 Occupational First Aid certificate
  • Proven experience as a Carpenter or other similar role
  • In-depth knowledge of construction procedures, equipment & tools
  • Ability to read and understand architectural/structural drawings
  • Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently
  • Aptitude in math
  • Good problem solving abilities
  • Good physical condition & stamina

REQUIREMENTS FOR SAFETY GEAR:

Must provide appropriate safety gear on job site.
· Hard Hat must be always worn on any work area where there is a danger of head injury from falling, flying or thrown objects, or other harmful contacts.
· Properly fitting safety eyewear must be worn appropriate to the conditions of the workplace if handling or exposed to materials which are likely to injure or irritate the eyes.
· Steel toe protective footwear must be always worn to illuminate factors: slipping, uneven terrain, abrasion, ankle protection and foot support, crushing potential, temperature extremes, corrosive substances, puncture hazards, electrical shock and any other recognizable hazard.

Responsibilities

Working from drawings or instructions from the Site Superintendent, performs carpentry related tasks and deficiencies:
1. Knowledgeable in a variety of tasks including, but not limited to: caulking, painting, trim, drywall repairs, mudding, taping, sanding, installing window & door, installing flooring, ceramic tiles, laminate, kitchen cabinets, etc.
2. Experience in the use of hand and power tools including, but not limited to: caulking guns, mudding tools, drills, skill saws, etc.
3. Knowledge in back framing, framing repairs and new builds
4. Physical stamina for lifting equipment and working at various heights and in tight spaces
5. Experience with PDI’s and quality control and fixing deficiencies
6. Be able to work with little or no supervision
7. Complete all take offs
8. Be able to interpret architectural drawings
9.. Be able to work with subtrades and project team
10. Ensure that all work is performed in good workmanship
