The Alma Mater Society (AMS) is the oldest student association in Canada and has been a central student organization at Queen's since its founding in 1858. Today, the AMS acts as a service, advocacy, and governing body on behalf of all students enrolled in AMS-affiliated programs at Queen's University. The AMS is a not-for-profit entity created by the Society to ensure its continuing financial viability by overseeing the management of its services and associated financial affairs. It is bound by the By-laws and corporate philosophy of our Mission and Operating statements as set out in the AMS Constitution. In addition to providing wage-based service staff positions for students wanting employment, the AMS seeks to support the Society's broader objectives through the provisioning of a high quality, relevant range of student funded services, that provide a wide range of employment opportunities and meaningful out-of-classroom learning and skill acquisition experiences for students. Job Summary Common Ground is a student run coffee shop that offers a variety of specialty coffees, iced drinks, bagels and cream cheese, delicious sandwiches and fresh baked goods. Common Ground prides itself on using fair-trade, organic coffee and many local products. As a Service Staff at Common Ground, you will act as a member of a large staff team, and will be required to fill the duties of your assigned station as well as the general duties of a Common Ground staff member while on shift. You will act as a representative of Common Ground Coffeehouse and the AMS for the duration of your term. Job Competencies Client/Customer Focus Commitment to Health and Safety Communication Cultural Sensitivity Teamwork Professionalism Job Duties Exhibit working knowledge of Health and Safety Standards with respect to commercial food preparation. Attend all training sessions to become familiar with the department and adhere and its general operations. Participate in the routine cleaning of the preparation and serving areas. Assist the management team with catering orders and event preparation as needed when on shift. Complete all assigned tasks efficiently and attentively when on shift. Attend and fully participate in all in person and virtual meetings Respect and adhere to all company policies, procedures, and ethical standards Maintain timely communication with your direct supervisor Strive to foster a warm, comfortable, and respectful atmosphere for customers and coworkers. Always serve as a representative of the AMS and its mission statement. Responsibilities
Service Staff members will act as representatives of Common Ground Coffeehouse and the AMS, filling duties assigned to their station and general staff responsibilities during their shift.
