Sandvik Mining Service Technician (Boilermaker) - Mechanical Cutting Heatherbrae I NSW About the opportunity An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Boilermaker Fabricator to join our Aftermarket Mechanical Cutting team at our Heatherbrae facility. In this role, you will perform high‑quality fabrication, welding, repairs, and rebuilds on a variety of Sandvik components and mining equipment. You will be responsible for structural fabrication tasks, equipment overhaul, and general workshop duties as required. Working within our Aftermarket Section, previous experience with OEM Underground Mining equipment such as Miners and Roadheaders- along with fabrication, maintenance, and rebuild work, will be highly regarded. As a Boilermaker in the Mechanical Cutting section, you will perform inspections, strip‑and‑assess work, structural repairs, rebuilds, and welding across a range of specialist mining equipment, including but not limited to: MB650/670 Sandvik Miners MT720 Sandvik Roadheaders LHD Fleet To support you in the role, we provide product training and ongoing access to our dedicated product support personnel. Roster: 4‑day roster (Monday – Thursday) - Full time Responsibilities Champion safety by adhering to all policies and procedures, especially Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) policies. Perform fabrication, structural welding, cutting, and repairs on mining equipment and components. Strip, assess and overhaul equipment in accordance with work procedures. Read and interpret engineering drawings, weld symbols, and technical specifications. Conduct inspections to identify faults, wear, or structural issues. Maintain accurate documentation, including repair reports and service records. Assist with incoming inspections, quality checks, and commissioning tasks as required. Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) to assist in fault identification and continuous improvement. Work collaboratively with fitters, technicians, apprentices, and site personnel. Support shutdowns, rebuild projects, and breakdown activities as required. Work effectively both independently and as part of a team. About you We are seeking a Newcastle-based candidate with an Australian‑recognised Engineering Fabrication Trade Qualification (Boilermaking/Welding). Experience working on underground mining machinery or heavy industrial equipment will be a strong advantage. You will have: Proficiency in MIG, TIG, and Stick welding techniques The ability to read and apply engineering drawings A strong and proven safety mindset High attention to detail and problem‑solving capability Excellent communication and teamwork skills A proactive attitude with the ability to meet targets and work autonomously where required Basic computer literacy Class C Manual Driver’s Licence Desirable: Forklift licence, Dogman/Rigger ticket, or experience with Sandvik equipment.
