Your Position We’re looking for a skilled and motivated Mechanical Technician to join our team at a state-of-the-art, fully automated meat processing and distribution facility (non-slaughter) in Melbourne’s west. This high-volume site operates in a cold storage environment maintained at 0°C and supports one of our key clients in the food industry. In this hands-on, customer-facing role, you’ll be responsible for servicing and maintaining live automated equipment in a clean, food-grade setting. You’ll need to follow strict health and safety protocols to ensure a safe and efficient workplace. This is a shift-based position on a 12-hour rotating roster (4 days on, 4 days off), including days, nights, weekends, and public holidays. You’ll be working in a temperature-controlled environment and collaborating with a dynamic team in a fast-paced, high-tech facility. As part of a highly motivated service team, your day-to-day focus will include: Perform preventative and reactive maintenance on a range of automated systems, including destackers, AS/RS cranes, Kawasaki pick-and-place robots, posisorters, diverters, barcode scanners, vision systems, conveyors, vertical lifts, MDRs, gear drives, and servo systems Diagnose and repair mechanical faults, with basic PLC fault-finding and interface knowledge preferred Accurately complete work orders and maintenance logs using the CMMS Maintain strict safety and hygiene standards in line with food industry regulations Collaborate with on-site operations teams to minimise downtime and ensure smooth workflow Act as the primary technical contact on-site, delivering professional service in a customer-facing role Support system upgrades, improvements, and commissioning activities About you: Trade qualification or Diploma, supported by relevant experience as a Service Technician. Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills. Proven experience with automated systems and electromechanical maintenance Strong mechanical aptitude, including pneumatics, hydraulics, and drive systems Basic electrical troubleshooting and PLC interface skills (preferred) Comfortable working in cold environments (0°C) with PPE provided Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Strong commitment to safety, reliability, and continuous improvement Willingness to work 12-hour rotating shifts on a 4-on / 4-off roster What We Offer Prime Location: Conveniently situated in Truganina with available onsite parking.
