Description

Local Peoples is seeking expressions of interest from experienced Service/UX/UI Designers and Design Researchers passionate about improving public sector services—particularly in public health and aged care.
As a preferred partner to the Department of Health and Aged Care’s HCD Centre of Excellence, we’re regularly asked to support design teams across multiple projects. New roles often arise with short notice, so we prioritise candidates who have completed our 1–2 week onboarding process.
By joining our talent pool, you’ll be considered for meaningful co-design work that improves services, policies, and products for communities across Australia. Submit your application now so we’re ready to connect you with the right opportunity when it comes up.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE (DEPENDENT ON LEVELS - SEE BELOW)

  • T-shaped Skillset: Deep expertise in one of our HCD competencies (service design, user experience, user interface design or user research), complemented by the ability to work across multiple different project types (communication, research, change, strategy)
  • Adaptability: High level of comfort working across a wide range of tasks and projects, thriving in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.
  • Stakeholder Management Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage, influence, and manage diverse stakeholders.
  • Proactive Attitude: A self-starter mindset, bringing solutions and ideas rather than waiting for direction.
  • Facilitation Expertise: Confidence in leading discussions, workshops, and collaborative sessions that drive meaningful outcomes.
  • Experience: A solid foundation of experience in HCD (minimum 3 years), with demonstrated success in delivering impactful design outcomes. Such as Service Design, User Research or Interaction Design.
  • Extensive human-centered design experience.
  • Experienced with design thinking, systems thinking, and agile methodologies.
  • Experience creating service blueprints, system maps, customer journeys, and supporting the execution of product or service delivery.
  • Working with the UX Researchers and able to carry our design research yourself using a range of quantitative and qualitative techniques to understand and provide recommendations on consumer expectations and needs.
  • Using techniques to illustrate the findings persuasively and focusing on how the message is delivered.
  • Anticipating risks, responding to them promptly, and helping others recognize them.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Relevant certifications in Service Design, UX/UI Design, Human-Centred Design, or design research or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in human-centred design (HCD), UX/UI/service design or design research.
