Fall 2025 Sessional Teaching Opportunity ¿ ACCT 217 LEC 08: Introductory Financial Accounting: Indigenous Learners in Accounting
The Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary invites applications for a Sessional Instructor(s) to teach a culturally-responsive section of Fall 2025 ACCT 217 (Introductory Financial Accounting) offered in partnership with the CPA Western School of Business (CPAWSB) and AOFA Canada. This section has been thoughtfully designed to meet the learning needs of Indigenous students and is grounded in Indigenous ways of knowing, being, and doing. Classes in the Fall 2025 semester run from September 2 to December 5, 2025. Registrar Scheduled Exams will take place between December 9 to December 19, 2025, if applicable.
The calendar description of the course:
“Introduction to accounting for business organizations. Reporting of financial results of operations and financial position to investors, managers, and others. Emphasis on the use of accounting information for decision making.”
This course recognizes the importance of creating space for Indigenous learners within a Western academic setting and incorporates principles of respect, reciprocity, and relationality. The curriculum draws on CPAWSB’s Indigenous accounting materials and is tailored to support student success through a culturally-informed approach to teaching, learning, and assessment.
