Description:
The Faculty of Education at the University of Prince Edward Island has openings for sessional instructors to teach the following courses in Summer 2025. The offering of the courses is conditional pending final enrolment numbers. All positions are subject to final budgetary and administrative approval.
ED-4490 INTRODUCTION TO INDIGENOUS EDUCATION (2 ENGLISH SECTIONS/1 FRENCH SECTION)
This course is a combination of classroom and community-based learning. Anchored in L’nu (Mi’kmaq) knowledge, students will learn about ceremony, protocol, Elders and traditional teachers. In turn, these will help foster a mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual understanding of Indigenous worldviews and ways of knowing. This course also introduces Canada’s history of cultural assimilation and genocide imposed upon Indigenous Peoples in Canada. It will discuss why all teachers – and anyone living in Canada – needs to know this history.
Section 1 is offered in English to students in the Primary/Elementary cohort of our Bachelor of Education program, Monday to Friday from 12:30pm to 3:20pm, May 5 to May 20, 2025. Section 2 is offered in English to students in the Intermediate/Senior cohort of our Bachelor of Education program, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 12:30pm to 3:20pm, May 22 to June 24, 2025. Section 5 is offered in French to students in our Bachelor of Education (français langue seconde) program, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:30am to 11:20am, May 22 to June 24, 2025.
ED-6110-52 INTRODUCTION TO RESEARCH METHODS IN EDUCATION
In this course, students are introduced to a variety of methods that are appropriate for conducting research in educational settings. Students develop an understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies. Students are introduced to the process of planning, conducting, and reporting research on learning and instruction, and to the critical analysis of current studies reported in educational literature.
Section 52 is offered on campus our MEd Focus on Inclusive Education (Qualify for PEI Additional Designation), Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:20pm, from July 7 to July 11, 2025.
ED-6270-76 GLOBAL EDUCATION
In this course, students examine the theory and practice of global education as it has developed in Canada and elsewhere. Other curriculum innovations that have contributed to global education (e.g., development education, environmental education, human rights education, peace education) are also examined. Interactive and participatory learning methodologies are used to encourage reflection on the teaching of contemporary social and global issues in a variety of educational contexts.
This course is offered to students in our MEd Focus on Global Perspectives, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:00am to 11:50am, July 2 to August 7, 2025.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Ideal candidates will have a Masters of Education or equivalent degree. Successful candidates will normally have school-based experience in a Canadian public K-12 system. For applicants without school-based experience, teaching in other contexts relevant and appropriate to the position will be considered.
