ESSENTIAL SKILLS

  • Appropriate qualification
  • Substantial experience of organising and leading religious services.

  • Orthodox Chaplain - Ordained Priest or Bishop
  • Be an ordained Priest or Bishop of the Orthodox Church in Communion with the See of Constantinople, and/or Antioch, Jerusalem, Alexandria.
  • Will normally need to have been in Holy Orders for a minimum of three years.
  • Have formal endorsement in the form of the certificate of Ordination of a Bishop, Metropolitan or Patriarch. *(Evidence required before appointment or approval from HMPPS Faith Advisor subject to agreement from Orthodox Advisor to HMPPS/Orthodox Bishop’s Pastoral Committee).

Responsibilities
  • Support a comprehensive programme of religious activities in the establishment in line with contractual requirements to meet the spiritual needs of the families.
  • Ensure that all families are provided with worship and teaching opportunities in all faiths, in line with contractual requirements and best practice.
  • Maintain community links with the wider faith community so the support provided within the establishment is current, in line with best practice and caters for all faiths.
  • Counsel families who request marriage whilst in custody and make any necessary arrangements for the wedding.
  • Assist in the promotion of creating a positive Health & Safety culture across the site leading by example, this includes reporting accidents and near misses in a timely manner & follow the applicable safe systems of work for the role.
