Multicultural Association of Fredericton Inc. (MCAF) is seeking a Settlement Intake Needs/Assets Assessment and Referrals (SINAAR) Worker.
SINAAR workers are the first contact for MCAF clients, community partners and community members. SINAAR Worker is part of the SINAAR Team who facilitate MCAF services including office duties, telephone reception, front desk support, clients’ registration with MCAF, clients’ needs/assets assessment & referral to MCAF and community/government services, and interpretation. These are essential bridging services, connecting new immigrants and refugees with MCAF, community partners and government programs and services.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Relevant post-secondary education
  • Fluency in English, and any other languages (e.g. Swahili, Arabic, etc.)
  • At least 1 year of experience of supporting immigrants & refugees and/or customer service experience
  • Excellent interpersonal, cross cultural, written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to de-escalate situations and listen for client’s needs
  • Strong ability to work in team and independently
  • Flexible, patient and interested in helping people
  • Proven ability to work well under pressure; outgoing
  • Ability to work with people from the same region/country of origin, but who might have different cultural or religious backgrounds, including LGBTQ experiences
  • Knowledge of MCAF programs and services and other community organizations that might be of interest to the newcomer families
  • Experience in outreach, community development and marketing of program and services
Responsibilities
  • Conduct office duties such as filing, photocopying, scanning, answering phone inquiries
  • Respond to initial inquiries about MCAF programs and services from potential programs participants, government and community services providers and community members in a professional manner
  • Ensure appropriate referral of MCAF clients to MCAF services and outside services/organizations. Ensure necessary assistance for clients accessing services, eg. Complete intake and referral forms to various MCAF services and follow up with clients and appropriate MCAF staff
  • Maintain accurate records of activities and ensure clients supporting documents are presented by newcomers before registration with MCAF is completed
  • Provide appropriate information and referral for inquiries re: Programs and funders eligibility requirements, Benchmark Assessments & EAL classes, MCAF programs, services, events, volunteering opportunities, etc.
  • Provide community interpretation support services for MCAF clients as needed
  • Maintain accurate records on completed activities and submit monthly and quarterly reports in accordance with deadlines and program requirements
  • Support all MCAF services and program delivery and perform other duties as needed
