Description SUMMARY OF POSITION: This is the entry level position in the shape room. Positions in this class will perform a variety of entry level physical tasks and have their work supervised. Shape Room Machinist Class 1 employees will have tasks explained before they start to ensure full understanding of all work instructions. The work performed is observed and proficiency is reviewed every 90-180-270-360 days. As the employee progresses in skill the difficulty and variety of work will increase. During the 90 day benchmarks the employee will have a skill competency test as well as a formal review. If the employee successfully and consistently passes and proves independence as a Class one, they will have the opportunity to move to a Class 2 position. Shape Room Machinist Class 1 has no supervision of others. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Perform machine set up and operation of band and table saws, rounder, slicing, and between centers for basic jobs to meet customer requirements. Work as a team. Have a good understanding of procedures throughout the shaping process. Use required measurement devices (scale and calipers) to ensure customer requirements and internal Quality requirements are met. Notify Supervisor or cell leader of exceptions. Maintain accurate transactions in ERP system. Maintain clean work environment. All other duties as assigned. If no experience upon hire, successful completion of the General Carbide Career Academy. Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. May be required to learn how to operate a forklift and/or scissor lift as well as pallet jacks and sky jacks. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is: regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work area may require hearing protection to be worn. Respirators are required for most job descriptions in building 1 and 3. Safety glasses are to be worn at all times. If you are required to wear a respirator you are required to be clean shaven. No exceptions. You will be fit tested on employment and once a year after. Failure to comply with this could end up in disciplinary behavior. Understand and obey our zero discharge policy and our Title V permit, which will be taught to you during new hire and on the job training. Ensure all records are filled out completely and legibly per established procedures. Work with supervisor to Identify and contribute to updating written procedures when change to a current process is made. When conflicting information is found, notify supervisor immediately for clarification before executing the next operational step.
